Lawson Wang, a multidisciplinary artist whose practice moves fluidly between painting, poetry, and fashion. Self-trained in the arts but rooted in a background in applied mathematics and statistics, Wang approaches creation as both an external exploration of the world and an internal journey of perception and self-reflection.
Through oil painting, mixed media, and text-based works, he investigates the subtle dynamics between being seen and seeing, the shifting mirrors of identity and collective perception. His visual language is dreamlike and layered, often embedding hidden details and surreal elements that invite viewers into a slow process of discovery—an antidote to fleeting, fast-consumed images.
Wang extends his paintings beyond the canvas into wearable art, zines, and installations, crafting immersive narratives where colour, poetry, and fabric converge. His projects often echo the rhythm of literature and fashion, transforming visual art into multi-dimensional worlds that embrace ambiguity, introspection, and quiet harmony.
He recently finished the residency in Het bos and is starting new residency at MerksemDok and Fameus.
