FOCUS | Sheida Soleimani & The Congress of the Birds

A glimpse into The Congress of the Birds, Sheida Soleimani’s wildlife rehabilitation initiative. The masked feeder in the video prevents birds from imprinting on humans, preserving their ability to return to the wild. Birds also appear throughout “Flyways”, on view now at the gallery. These subjects are never staged, always wild. Patience and experience shape the rest as across Soleimani’s work, care, survival, and resistance are deeply intertwined.

We’re joining Downtown Brussels Art this Saturday, May 30, from 11:00-18:00. Grab a map and explore all participating spaces.

Premiere | Emmanuel Van der Auwera

“Can You Make a Hurricane?” at Kunstenfestivaldesarts 2026, presented at Halles de Schaerbeek, Brussels. .be

Congratulations to Emmanuel Van der Auwera on a sold-out premiere. The work continues his ongoing research into constructed realities, conspiracy, and performativity, an inquiry that will further unfold across three institutional solo exhibitions next year.

Blending live cinema, testimony, and staged scenarios, the piece probes how narratives are built, rehearsed, and believed, moving between theatre and simulation, truth and fabrication.

PRESS | Marcin Dudek

In the latest issue of , Niels Van Tomme reviews “NEST,” Marcin Dudek’s immersive reconstruction of his childhood apartment and a notorious neighbourhood bar from his youth in Kraków.

The review highlights the tension between the harsh, prefab architecture of the socialist era and the “frail white embroidery” that seals the windows, a nod to the rural communities displaced into urban housing projects. By shifting from the “stadium” to the “home,” Dudek uses medical tape, burn marks, and salvaged sound to suture together a history that is as much about collective survival as it is about personal memory.

Sheida Soleimani | Flyways

We’ve always believed in fireflies, those who flicker with hope and light in the dark. In “Survival of the Fireflies”, Georges Didi-Huberman describes that fragile, stubborn glow as a form of resistance, a way of enduring. Sheida Soleimani is one of ours.

We’ve worked closely with her for over a decade, and this past week was a reminder why: her first exhibition with Yancey Richardson Gallery in New York, a Guggenheim Fellowship, features in The Guardian and The New York Times, and a major fundraising week for her non-profit, The Congress of the Birds - all before joining us in Brussels for “Flyways”, our third exhibition together.

In “Flyways”, Sheida weaves together the threads of her own life: her family’s flight from Iran after the 1979 revolution, and her work rehabilitating injured birds in Rhode Island, where over 1,000 are released each year. Migration, exile, displacement, resistance, resilience - less subjects than lived experience.

Congratulations, Sheida. Keep shining!

Chambre d’Amis | Haseeb Ahmed

In his 1986 exhibition, Jan Hoet illustrated his conviction that art belonged in life - not just in institutions or galleries, but in living rooms, in conversation, among friends. Forty years later, that belief is as important as ever.

Chambre d’Amis Dallas, edition 4, what a fun and inspiring day! Haseeb Ahmed in conversation with Justine Ludwig, in front of a room full of old and new friends - including leadership from the Dallas Museum of Art, the Nasher Sculpture Center, and Dallas Contemporary. Science and poetry, wind and language, institutions and living rooms. The conversation followed the warm breeze, it went everywhere it should. THANK YOU ALL. We can’t wait for the next Dallas edition in November.
