[PRESSE]📰

- Aurore Vaucelle

‘I’m now beginning to make that link between imperial domination and the domination of the Earth’ - Yinka Shonibare

Material extraction was an essential feature of colonialism, closely tied to the growth of modern capitalism.

Empires harvested huge volumes of natural resources from their colonies to drive industrialisation.

They transformed occupied territories into plantations for cash crops like sugar, tea and coffee, and palm oil.

In this work ''The Botanist Kid (Boy)'', Yinka Shonibare CBE explores links between extractive colonialism and modern environmental crises.

❗Teachers❗ Have you heard?

We’ve added two new modules to HistoriCall!

Our ready-to-use content in 24 languages, now has 4 modules to help your students connect European history with today’s challenges

✅EU Pioneers: Meet the Founders of the Union
✅The Timeline of the EU”

❗NEW❗Trust or Trash? Media through the lens of European history

This module helps students develop media literacy and critical thinking skills needed to navigate today’s complex media landscape.

Through examples from European history, students learn to identify bias and manipulation, while reflecting on their own media habits. It builds understanding of the psychological mechanisms shaping media content across history, equipping students to become responsible media users, though, quizzes, AI-powered video explainers and more.

❗NEW❗What is racism? From colonial histories to contemporary inequalities

This module examines racism and colonialism through a historically and pedagogically sensitive approach.

Rather than presenting racism as isolated individual acts, it helps students understand how racism is historically connected to colonial expansion, how repercussions of colonialism are still shaping our societies, and what systemic racism is.

The module combines historical and artistic sources, testimonies, and reflective exercises, to support teachers in facilitating structured, informed and respectful discussions.
