We are pleased to remind you that Luc Mabille’s exhibition can still be visited on April 19, 25 and 26.
Join us for a glass of Prosecco Sunday, April 26, at the closing ceremony. The artist will be present.

“Shangri-La, a mythical place of inner peace, existed only in the fiction of ‘Lost Horizon’, a 1933 novel by J. Hilton, and two film adaptations. Until 2001, when the Chinese province of Yunnan renamed a high-altitude city with a Tibetan monastery. Fiction recuperated by reality.
Near this Shangri-La, I recently stood on a mountaintop. I saw the surrounding mountains reflected in the window of an abandoned building. Interiors where light, and even the exterior world, pe*****te through windows, have always inspired me as a painter. Increasingly, through reflective windows, I let the surroundings behind me merge with the wall directly in front of me, close yet separate; in a disorienting way, the limiting horizon disappears.
Behind one horizon, another one disappears, a piece of reality lost in the translation into two dimensions, just as depth diminishes. A horizon, after all, is at odds with the vertical field of work that is a painting. The mirrored surface runs parallel, for it is vertical, flat, and impenetrable, like that wall, and like every image in a frame, film, photo, or painting. A fiction recuperated by the reality painted on a surface. An unreachable place.
Most days, I stand in my studio looking at these kinds of surfaces. A mirror places a splash of greenery from the garden right next to a piece of curtain and above a sheet of paper, a picture, a frame: reality rearranged.
In this juxtaposition, the mirror pulls in the opposite side, with the intermediate spaces and bodies. They become silhouettes, flat characters. As reflections, I can make visitors in galleries even enter iconic works of art. As if they suddenly inhabit the fictional Shangri-La.”
