Samen met buurtbewoners creëerde kunstenares Françoise Schein een kunstwerk dat uitnodigt tot ontmoeting en dialoog. De kleurrijke keramieken tegels, gemaakt tijdens workshops met inwoners van Strombeek, vormen samen een collectief verhaal in de publieke ruimte.

Deze zomer krijgt de lange tafel een plaats op het Gemeenteplein, waar ze tijdens Strombeach verder zal uitgroeien tot een levendige ontmoetingsplek.

De feestelijke inhuldiging valt samen met de vernissage van '(H)eden', de tweejaarlijkse overzichtstentoonstelling van de ateliers beeldende kunst.

Together with local residents, artist Françoise Schein created Banquet of Utopias, a work of art that encourages interaction and dialogue. The colorful ceramic tiles, made during workshops with residents of Strombeek, come together to form a collective narrative in the public space.

This summer, the long table will be installed on Gemeenteplein, where it will continue to evolve into a lively gathering place during Strombeach.

The festive inauguration falls together with the opening of ‘(H)eden,’ the biennial retrospective exhibition of the visual arts studios.

Op de laatste dag van haar solotentoonstelling Concrete Sweethearts, organiseert de kunstenaar een karaoke in het nabijgelegen Café 3 Harten.

De karaoke sluit nauw aan bij de nieuwe video “Britney Paradox, the Medusa Effect”, die deel uitmaakt van haar tentoonstelling. De video, die de relatie tussen beeld, verhalen en identiteit onderzoekt, toont zo fans van Britney Spears die door middel van covers, danspasjes en imitaties op sociale media hun identiteit vormgeven.

On the final day of her solo exhibition Concrete Sweethearts, the artist is organising a karaoke event at the nearby Café 3 Harten.

The karaoke ties in closely with the new video “Britney Paradox, the Medusa Effect”, which forms part of her exhibition. The video, which explores the relationship between image, narratives and identity, shows Britney Spears fans shaping their identities through covers, dance moves and impersonations on social media.

Kunstenaar Katja Novitskova en geuronderzoeker Sissel Tolaas ontwikkelden ‘Plastivore Potential’ voor de expo ‘TOXIC MATTERS’ in Cc Strombeek. De indringende geur van het kunstwerk roept een “post-plastic” zee op: een toekomst waarin plastic is opgenomen in de kringloop van het zeeleven. Hoe zou zo’n zee ruiken?

Tijdens het gesprek gaat Heidi Ballet in op de rol die wetenschap speelt in het werk van de twee kunstenaars. Hoe werden de kunstenaars geïnspireerd door de oceaan? En hoe maakt hun werk ecologische processen tastbaar voor het publiek?

Artist Katja Novitskova and scent researcher Sissel Tolaas developed ‘Plastivore Potential’ for the ‘TOXIC MATTERS’ exhibition at Cc Strombeek. The artwork’s penetrating scent evokes a “post-plastic” sea: a future in which plastic has been incorporated into the cycle of marine life. What would such a sea smell like?

During the conversation, Heidi Ballet explores the role that science plays in the work of the two artists. How were the artists inspired by the ocean? And how does their work make ecological processes tangible for the public?
