102-year-old Paula Del Din displaying the special belt she used when becoming the first Italian woman to make a parachute jump behind enemy lines in WWII . During a podcast interview, Paola, one of the few remaining members of the Italian resistance movement, lives in her hometown of Udine. She described the story of how she volunteered to help the British Special Operations Executive (SOE) by crossing enemy lines to carry documents to Allied forces and then jumped from a British spy plane and parachuted back behind enemy lines near Udine. Paola joined the Italian resistance and the SOE after her brother Renato was killed by the N**is. The British SOE provided helped to various Italian Partisan groups including the Osoppa Brigades, made up of non-Communists from the Friuli-Venezia-Julia region in northeast Italy near the border with former Yugoslavia. After WWII, Paola, a staunch anti-communist, was an outspoken advocate for holding the members of the Italian communist Garibaldi partisan group who murdered Osoppa Brigade members in the infamous Porzus Massacre in February of 1945 - a crime that poisoned Italian politics for decades after WWII. Hear about Paolo's story and the Porzus Massacre in the latest episode of the podcast focused on the behind-enemy-lines special operations carried out on enemy territory during the Gothic Line Offensive that took place between August of 1944 and April 1945.
