Silenzi d’oro by the Italian artist Mirco Marchelli.

Just like a musical composition, in which distinct motifs come together to form a harmonious whole, Mirco Marchelli brings materials of diverse origins, textures and meanings into carefully balanced assemblages. Each element retains its individual identity while contributing to a subtle interplay of rhythm, proportion and silence.

Two more weekends at our gallery in Watou, Silenzi d’oro will be on view until 6 September.

Silenzi d’oro, the second Belgian solo exhibition by the Italian artist Mirco Marchelli. On view for two more weekends at our gallery in Watou.

Since the mid-1990s, Marchelli has developed a highly personal visual language in which painting, assemblage and sculpture converge. Materials such as plaster, cement, wax, textiles, paper, wood, ceramics, and other found objects are brought together in carefully constructed compositions.
Many of these objects bear the traces of a previous existence: use, wear, the passage of time and memory remain visibly inscribed within them. By removing them from their original context and placing them in new constellations, Marchelli frees them from their everyday function and opens them to new layers of meaning.

Memory is one of the central themes running throughout Mirco Marchelli’s oeuvre. Yet his work is not concerned with nostalgia in the conventional sense. He neither illustrates personal memories nor reconstructs a lost past. Instead, he creates images that evoke a sense of recognition while resisting definitive explanation.

Italian art, great company, inspiring conversations and good vibes.

We had the pleasure of welcoming Extremis and their guests to our gallery for an evening surrounded by the works of Mirco Marchelli.

Light, architecture and nature all became part of the experience.

Thanks Extremis - Belgian design for bringing everyone together and for making us part of this special event.

This weekend, Mirco Marchelli’s solo exhibition Silenzi d’oro is on view for its second weekend at our gallery in Watou, Belgium.

Marchelli originally comes from a musical background. As a trumpet player, he performed on Paolo Conte’s tours in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He later devoted himself entirely to his artistic practice, but his musical background has never disappeared.

For Marchelli, music and visual art are closely intertwined. His opere unfold like musical scores, in which materials, forms and empty spaces enter into dialogue with one another. Rhythm, composition and repetition shape the work — but equally important is silence.

Our second stop in Italy: the studio of Sophie Ko.
A visit filled with inspiring conversations, new discoveries and exciting plans ahead.

We selected new works for our group exhibition this October, and we’re already looking further ahead, as we begin preparations for a solo exhibition with Sophie Ko at our gallery in Belgium in 2027. More on that soon…

October 2026 will be an exciting month for Sophie Ko, as she will also present a solo exhibition at BUILDING Gallery in Milan, curated by Federico Ferrari.

Opening today! Silenzi d’oro presents the second Belgian solo exhibition by the Italian artist Mirco Marchelli.

Silenzi d’oro refers to a condition in which silence is understood not as emptiness or absence, but as an active space of attention and resonance. In this new body of work, Marchelli deliberately embraces a visual language of reduction and omission. His artistic gesture is akin to music and breathing: what remains unseen is often as meaningful as what is visibly present.

These works invite a slow and attentive mode of looking. Subtle shifts in material, colour and composition reveal themselves gradually, allowing each work to become a contemplative space in which time itself appears to slow.

Join us for the opening today, in presence of the artist .marchelli from 11:00 to 18:00.

Silenzi d’oro will be on view from 09 August–06 September 2026. Open on Friday, Saturday and Sundays, from 14:00 to 18:00 or by appointment.

During our summer break, we had the great pleasure of visiting Mirco Marchelli’s studio in Ovada, Italy, in preparation for his forthcoming solo exhibition in Belgium.

Our sincere thanks to Mirco and Catharina, and to Serena and Marco of Marco Rossi Arte Contemporarnea for their generous Italian hospitality.

It is with great pleasure that we announce the opening of the exhibition on Sunday, 9 August, in the presence of the artist. We look forward to welcoming you to Silenzi d’oro, where Marchelli’s artistic gesture unfolds in the quiet space between presence and absence.
