JEAN GODECHARLE discovers his images during walks, where looking becomes a slow and attentive process. His photography transcends the medium itself: analogue and digital techniques, reworked imagery, and subtle ink interventions keep the image open, fluid, and in motion.

We will close the exhibition ‘Devenir’ with a finissage in the presence of Jean Godecharle.
Join us, meet the artist, and discover more about his recent work.

Finissage:

Excited and all set to open this wonderful solo exhibition featuring new work by JEAN GODECHARLE.

You are warmly invited to the opening
this Sunday, 3 May
from 14:00 to 18:00
in the presence of the artist

Location: Doornstraat 6.0001, Kortrijk

The exhibition runs from 3 to 30 May.
Open on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
from 14:00 to 18:00, or by appointment.

Devenir is the second solo exhibition of Jean Godecharle at the gallery and presents new work. The title refers to an open process of becoming, without a fixed endpoint.

Godecharle approaches the photographic image not as a finished entity, but as a continuously shifting field. Through an emphasis on light, materiality, and the tension between detail and landscape, the image resists fixation and instead takes shape gradually, also within the viewer’s perception.

In recent work, this dynamic is made explicit through localised interventions with ink. These manual additions function as subtle intensifications that guide the gaze without closing the image, thereby reinforcing the work’s processual character.

This exhibition will also be on view
during Kortrijk Art Weekend
8, 9, and 10 May > 10:00–18:00

Although his practice remains grounded in photography, Jean Godecharle has consciously distanced himself from the medium’s conventional expectations. The constraints of the camera, the interplay between analogue and digital processes, and the reworking of archival material collectively open a space in which the image can evade fixation.
The recent, localised applications of ink render this dynamic explicit. As manual interventions, they delineate fragments within the image without enclosing them, functioning instead as intensifications, subtle modulations that direct attention while maintaining the image’s openness.

We look back with great gratitude on a warm, beautiful closing moment of this remarkable solo in our gallery last Sunday.
Willo Gonnissen’s artistic introduction and the presence of Anne Voss made it a truly special and meaningful tribute to Horst Linn.

Many thanks to Anne, Willo and Frank Hendrickx for the wonderful collaboration, and to all who joined us to share this moment.

A selection of works remains available — please feel free to get in touch for more information at [email protected]

Sophie Ko (b. 1981, Tbilisi) lives and works in Milan and is represented in Belgium and the Netherlands by our gallery. At Art Rotterdam, we introduced her compelling work, in which ash, gold and pigment come together as carriers of memory and transformation.

Ko allows matter to speak through her ‘temporal geographies’: what burns, decays and re-emerges reveals a tension between destruction and revelation. Her works, composed of pure pigment, touch on the imaginal, a space between the visible and the invisible, inviting us to look beyond the surface.

Recent solo exhibitions include Sophie Ko. Manche Freilich müssen drunten sterben / Some must die below, of course, Galerie East featuring Sophie Ko, at EYES ONLY, Munich (2025); the Italian Cultural Institute, London (2024); the Estorick Collection of Italian Modern Art, London (2024); Museo Marino Marini, Florence (2022); and Ca’ Pesaro – International Gallery of Modern Art, Venice (2019), among others. Her work has also been presented in group exhibitions at institutions including SAMoCA, Riyadh (2024) and MAC – Contemporary Art Museum, Lissone. In 2016, she was awarded the Lissone Prize for Painting.
