davi de jesus do nascimento | Mitre Galeria

“carcaça”, a solo exhibition by davi de jesus do nascimento is on view at Mitre Galeria, São Paulo until May 16.

In these works, images do not settle—they vibrate, shift, persist. Moving between body, memory, and fabulation, the practice unfolds as a field in constant ebullition, where to see is also to be traversed.

“everything contained in this ark is risk and ravine of those who were fertilized by stings; it is the trace of the carapace whose flesh shelters the handful of lavas that will ensure the multiplication and continuity of life beyond the human: the plague crying out warnings.”

Last day | EXPO Chicago 2026

For EXPO Chicago 2026, Diego Mouro has developed a new body of paintings centered on the figure of Our Lady of the Rosary and the Afro-Brazilian traditions of the Congado.

Mouro’s paintings carry echoes of art history while remaining deeply grounded in Brazilian cultural memory. They propose enchantment as both a poetic and political stance. In the artist’s words, “it is urgent to live in a state of enchantment.”

At Expo Chicago, the presentation offers an immersive encounter with a body of work that weaves together spirituality, Afro-Brazilian heritage, and contemporary painting, affirming faith and imagination as enduring forces of resistance and care.

Mitre Galeria | SP–Arte 2026

Mitre Galeria is participating in SP–Arte 2026 with a proposal that invites pause. The curatorial selection is not organized around a single theme, but rather through critical affinities that run across the works: the image as a field of dispute, the body as a site of historical inscription, and memory as a material in constant formation.

By articulating different media and temporalities, the proposal affirms the fair as a space for sensitive and critical reflection, capable of sustaining pauses and generating meaning even within an environment marked by visual saturation and the speed of interactions.

Diego Mouro | Northern Trust Prize

We are delighted to share that Diego Mouro has received the Northern Trust Prize acquisition award at Expo Chicago for the painting Indo buscar sá Rainha, which will now join the collection of The Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C.

More than an image, the work stands as a tribute to the history of a people, to a faith that endures through time, and to a body of research built over years with rigor, attentiveness, and respect. It is especially meaningful to see this journey recognized and awarded abroad.

In the painting, a procession moves toward the waters to retrieve Our Lady of the Rosary, revisiting the narrative of the saint found at sea. The path crosses a field of flowers, creating an almost dreamlike atmosphere. Here, however, the flowers do not fall from the sky—they grow from the earth and accompany the journey, reinforcing the connection between nature, devotion, and collective memory. In the artist’s words, it is urgent to live in a state of enchantment.

Come find us at booth 421 at Focus sector at EXPO Chicago featuring a solo booth by Diego Mouro!

Bringing together a new body of paintings, the project draws on the figure of Our Lady of the Rosary and Afro-Brazilian Congado traditions, where faith, memory, and history converge. Grounded in ongoing iconographic and spiritual research, the works unfold as a visual narrative in which images assert themselves as fields of presence.

Water, movement, and rhythm emerge as recurring elements, while blue—of the mantle, of the sea, of protection—runs through the paintings as both a symbolic and sensorial force. In dialogue with art history and Brazilian cultural memory, the works propose enchantment as a poetic and political gesture.

Gê Viana | Art Review

Gê Viana’s “Radiola de Promessa” is featured at this month’s Art Review’s sector Art Lovers Movie Club dedicated to screening videos online alongside a new essay by her practice by Mateus Nunes.

“Radiolas are not merely the material convergence of musicality, faith, celebration and dance; they create occasions and carve out intervals in time that grant something people of Afro-diasporic roots in Brazil are routinely denied due to the racist legacy of slavery: leisure.

“The work reasserts the presence of these spaces of rest and gathering, where Black and peripheral communities can go on the weekend and simply enjoy reggae on the beach, unburdened. I like to imagine the moment when the sound kisses the sea, when it spills beyond the speakers and takes hold of the bodies around it, manifesting in people who are celebrating calmly, who walk towards the water to meet, to talk, to make their offerings. Many of these sounds – songs, chants, oral histories – crossed the ocean to arrive here from Africa, and many were lost along the way. All I know for certain is this: we did not go searching for this sound. It was the sound that reached us.”

Save the Date | SP–Arte

Mitre Galeria is participating in SP–Arte 2026 with a proposal that invites pause. Amid the fair’s intense pace, we present a group of works that challenge the tempo of experience, bringing together different modes of attention across painting, sculpture, and photography.

At the core of the project, a continuous video program introduces another temporality into the exhibition space, inviting the public to slow down and dwell on the duration of the images. The works engage with questions of memory, the body, and history, proposing alternative ways of seeing and of remaining.

SAVE THE DATE | EXPO Chicago 2026

Mitre Galeria is pleased to present “Blue Mantle”, a solo booth by Diego Mouro, as part of the Focus sector at EXPO Chicago 2026.
