Sob curadoria de Gustavo Caboco, Macunaíma é Duwid ocupa a Pina Estação com uma retomada crítica do livro de Mário de Andrade, Macunaíma – o herói sem nenhum caráter, a partir das vozes de artistas e pensadores das etnias Wapichana, Macuxi, Tauperan, Akawaio e Patamona. Resultado de uma pesquisa desenvolvida ao longo de dois anos em parceria com o grupo de estudos Ajuri, a mostra entrecruza obras de artistas indígenas contemporâneos e uma parte do acervo artístico e documental da Pinacoteca, reposicionando o centro da narrativa modernista sob a perspectiva dos povos originários. Curated by Gustavo Caboco (Gustavo Caboco), Macunaíma é Duwid is on view at the Pina Estação (Pinacoteca de São Paulo), presenting a critical reexamination of Mário de Andrade’s Macunaíma – o herói sem nenhum caráter through the voices of Wapichana, Macuxi, Tauperan, Akawaio, and Patamona artists and thinkers. The exhibition is the result of a two-year research project developed in collaboration with the Ajuri study group. Interweaving works by contemporary Indigenous artists with selections from the Pinacoteca’s art and documentary collections, it repositions the center of the modernist narrative from the perspective of Indigenous peoples. Paintings and sculptures by Sidney Amaral, whose work occupies a pivotal place in discussions of memory, Black identity, and history in contemporary Brazil, are among the highlights of Padê: Sentinela à porta da memória. Joeun Kim Aatchim reveals that the title of her first solo exhibition in Brazil, Miss Ceilingfan – ad nauseam, grew out of painting the same female face over and over, to the point of exhaustion. In conversation with A&D, the artist shares her creative process and discusses how she conceives the relationship between the paintings, her choice of materials, and their installation within the exhibition space. By transforming memories and emotional states into delicate, precious images that remain open to transformation, Aatchim offers a meditation on the passage of time and the endurance of lived experience.

Em conversa com a A&D, Ana Roman, curadora de Matéria Escura, comenta como um conceito da astrofísica se tornou ponto de partida para pensar a arte como um espaço de fabulação e de construção de outras formas de compreender o mundo. Apresentando trabalhos de Erika Malzoni, Jacque Faus e Manuella Silveira, a mostra nos convida a habitar as ambiguidades que atravessam as obras.

No próximo sábado, 18 de julho, a curadora recebe o público na Almeida & Dale às 11h para uma conversa sobre a exposição. O encontro marca o encerramento de Matéria Escura na A&D, Rua Fradique Coutinho 1430.

In conversation with A&D, Dark Matter curator Ana Roman (ana roman) reflects on how a concept from astrophysics became the starting point for thinking about art as a space for fabulation and for imagining other ways of understanding the world. Featuring pieces by Erika Malzoni (Erika Malzoni), Jacque Faus (Jacque Faus), and Manuella Silveira (Manuella Silveira), the exhibition invites us to dwell in the ambiguities that run through the works.

On Saturday, July 18, at 11 a.m., the curator will welcome visitors to Almeida & Dale for a talk about the exhibition. The event marks the closing of Dark Matter at A&D, Rua Fradique Coutinho 1430.

JOSECA YANOMAMI

Joseca Yanomami (b. 1971) is from a community on the Lobo d’Almada River (Uxiu), a tributary of the upper Catrimani River in Roraima. The son of a shaman – a “great man” (pata thë) — he has spent his life in close attention to the chants of Yanomami shamans, who through dance and song “bring down” and “make dance” the images (utupë) of beings and places from the beginning of time. In a similar gesture, Joseca renders his own dreamed images of the universes comprising the Yanomami “land-forest-world” (urihi) which is not just a collection of trees but a complex multiverse in which humans and spirits (xapiri thë pë) visible only to shamans, coexist.

As Joseca describes: “I don’t draw without a reason. I take inspiration in the words I hear from the shamans, those who have the most beautiful chants, those who really know how to make the words of the xapiri pë spirits be heard. When they hold their sessions, I listen to their chants and record all these words in my mind, which I later dream about and transform into drawings.”

Working in a figurative-realist style, he makes visible the knowledge and beauty of an ancestral way of thinking and living that is relentlessly destroyed by economic voracity and ignorance.

Riverlines, an exhibition of work by three generations of Amazonian Indigenous artists Chico da Silva, Joseca Yanomami, and Kuenan Mayu, is on view through July 31st.

Próxima da lógica dos mitos e das fábulas, Vivian Caccuri estabelece uma atmosfera de estranheza e eletricidade em Pele Azul. Em sua nova individual, em cartaz no Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil, em São Paulo, até 3 de agosto, a artista propõe ao público um exercício estético a partir das imagens do mosquito azul, Sabethes albiprivus.

Neste sábado, 11 de julho, a artista recebe o público a partir das 15h para uma visita guiada e uma conversa com a cientista Flávia Virginio.

Close to the thinking of myths and fables, Vivian Caccuri establishes an atmosphere of strangeness and electricity in Pele Azul (Blue Skin). In her new solo exhibition, on view at Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil () in São Paulo through August 3, the artist invites the public to an aesthetic exercise based on images of the blue mosquito, Sabethes albiprivus.

Over two decades, the artist has built a practice guided by an integrated perception of the natural world — from celestial bodies to botanical beings. Mariana Palma (.palma_) opens the doors of her studio in São Paulo on the eve of her trip to Portugal, where she is now presenting her first solo exhibition in Lisbon. A Delicadeza do Excesso, on view at Kubikgallery () through September 12, brings together a selection of the artist’s visual vocabulary, marked by the juxtaposition of images and the layering of transparencies.

O MAM São Paulo é responsável por uma das principais coleções de arte moderna e contemporânea do Brasil. Boa parte dos artistas representados pela A&D está presente no extenso acervo do museu.

Com sede temporariamente fechada, a coleção do MAM circula por diferentes instituições parceiras. No MAB FAAP, a mostra ‘FAAP na coleção do MAM: a formação do artista’ evidenciou a formação artística como um processo contínuo, construído no trânsito entre prática, ensino e espaços expositivos. A exposição reuniu obras de Felipe Cohen, Alex Červený, Paulo Pasta, José Leonilson e Sidney Amaral, entre outros artistas cujas trajetórias se entrelaçam às da FAAP e do museu.

Agora no Sesc Bom Retiro, um novo recorte da coleção está em exibição. A mostra ‘Mire Veja’ celebra a dimensão pública da arte a partir de um novo olhar sobre o acervo. Visite e veja obras de Heitor dos Prazeres, Rodrigo Andrade e Sara Ramo.

MAM São Paulo (Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo) holds one of Brazil’s most important collections of modern and contemporary art. Several artists represented by A&D are present in the museum’s extensive collection.

With its main building temporarily closed, the MAM collection travels across different partner institutions. At MAB FAAP (Museu de Arte Brasileira), the exhibition ‘FAAP na coleção do MAM: a formação do artista’ highlighted artistic formation as a continuous process, built through the interplay between practice, teaching, and exhibition spaces. The show brought together works by Felipe Cohen (Felipe Cohen), Alex Červený (Alex Červený), Paulo Pasta (Paulo Pasta), José Leonilson (Projeto Leonilson), and Sidney Amaral — artists whose trajectories intersect with those of FAAP and the museum.

Now at Sesc Bom Retiro (Sesc Bom Retiro), a new selection from the collection is on view. The exhibition ‘Mire Veja’ celebrates the public dimension of art through a fresh look at the collection. RIVERLINES, an exhibition of work by three generations of Amazonian Indigenous artists Chico da Silva, Joseca Yanomami, and Kuenan Mayu, is on view through July 31st.

The exhibition brings together sustained practices rooted in the living traditions of the Yanomami, Tikuna, Tariana, and Tukano peoples.

The exhibition features sixteen 1964 paintings on paper mounted on wood by Chico da Silva, alongside signature works from the 1970s and early 1980s that map riverine geographies and cosmologies. It also includes a cycle of Joseca Yanomami paintings embodying the visions of the Yanomami people’s land–forest; and twenty paintings by Kuenan Mayu, who uses natural Amazonian pigments on sacred tururi canvas to create works ranging from intimate ancestral gestures to hallucinatory cosmologies.
