Last Friday, the Khama III Memorial Museum came alive with poetry and spoken word

Among the voices that graced our stage was Motitinti Nkgaswa, a poet, performer and, importantly, one of the museum’s longstanding supporters and collaborators.

Motitinti has continued to show up for the museum not only as a performer, but as a creative partner and supporter across many of our activities. His willingness to lend his voice, presence and energy to what we do is something we deeply value.

Thank you, Motinti, for continuing to show up, collaborate and share your voice with us. 💙

IN LOVING MEMORY OF DR. LELOBA MOLEMA

The Khama III Memorial Museum joins the literary community in mourning the passing of Dr. Leloba Molema.

As a Trustee and founding member of the Bessie Head Heritage Trust, her work helped keep alive the voice, writings and legacy of one of Africa’s most celebrated writers.

We honour her life, her scholarship and her contribution to literature and cultural memory.

May her legacy continue to inspire generations.
Rest in peace, Dr. Leloba Molema.

Fashion inspired by heritage, resilience and prosperity

Are you a tailor, dressmaker, fashion designer or creative in Serowe?

As we celebrate 60 years of Botswana’s Independence, we are inviting you to use the history and heritage at Khama III Memorial Museum as inspiration to create a fashion piece that shows what “Building Resilience and Driving Prosperity” means to you.

You can be inspired by the Willoughby Collection, museum objects, photographs, stories or anything else you discover at the museum.

But don’t make the outfit yet! 👗✋🏽
First, submit your idea it can be a drawing, a written description, fabric idea, photograph or any simple way of showing your idea.

The best ideas will be selected and the chosen creatives will then develop their designs into finished pieces to be showcased during the Botswana 60 Independence celebrations.

Today, we welcomed a group of preschool learners who travelled all the way from Artley Main Childhood Centre Bobonong to experience the museum. Watching them explore, ask questions and discover our history through their own eyes was a beautiful reminder of why museums matter.

Museums are not just for adults or history enthusiasts. They are spaces where children can see, touch, imagine, question and connect with the stories that shaped who we are.

No matter their age, where they come from, or how little they may be, every child deserves the opportunity to experience their heritage and learn from the past.

Because when we introduce children to museums today, we are helping raise a generation that understands, values and protects its heritage tomorrow. ❤️

Museums are for every generation. And the journey of discovery can begin at any age.
