Our mission is to collect, record, preserve and share the stories of Abbotsford. We offer guided tours of Trethewey House, educational programs for students and public programming for seniors, families, kids and adults. Trethewey House was built near the shores of Mill Lake in 1919 by provincial lumber baron Joseph Ogle “J.O.” Trethewey, president of the Abbotsford Lumber Company. President betwee

n 1919 and 1927, J.O. Trethewey led the company during the company’s boom years in the 1920s. The House has undergone extensive restoration work and has been restored to c. 1925 with the help of local families and assistance from the Province of British Columbia through British Columbia Arts Council and Direct Access Gaming. The Heritage Site also boasts a Carriage House, which houses our Legacies on the Lake permanent exhibit, Joey’s Playhouse, the Upper Sumas British Columbia Electric Railway (“BCER”) train station and the Sylvia Pincott Heritage Garden.

In recognition of Volunteer Appreciation Week, we want to extend our deepest gratitude to all of our volunteers who continue to shape and strengthen the work we do.

Among them, the South Poplar alumni volunteer group brings invaluable wisdom, lived experiences, and a willingness to give back that is helping bring the South Poplar Schoolhouse project to life. Their voices and perspectives are at the heart of this project.

Through initiatives like the upcoming South Poplar Schoolhouse program, these alumni are generously sharing their stories to help educate students about attending South Poplar and their school experiences. Their willingness to share their stories creates a space for learning and meaningful dialogue with the next generation.

This project would not be possible without the dedication and continued involvement of the South Poplar alumni community. We are honoured to work alongside each and every one of them.

Today, on BC Book Day, we’re taking a moment to recognize and appreciate the incredible impact of a valued community partner, The Book Man.

We are grateful for The Book Man and their ongoing generosity. Through their support of Selxwí:chel Arts and Culture Day and Heritage Abbotsford's other programs, we have been able to open doors to imagination and learning for so many young readers. Contributions like these create lasting impacts in our community!

We are truly grateful for their community support and their commitment to giving back and supporting local initiatives!
