🌟 It's officially Museum Month in Mississippi Mills! 🌟

Council has proclaimed the month of May in recognition of the vital role our local museums play in preserving the history, culture and identity that shape our community.

📖 Our museums are more than buildings — they’re storytellers. Whether it’s the ingenuity preserved at the Mill of Kintail Museum (Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority), the craftsmanship showcased at the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum, or the local memories held at the North Lanark Regional Museum, each museum reveals a different thread of who we are. 🧵

With International Museum Day on May 18, there’s no better time to explore, learn and reconnect with the places that hold our shared heritage.

Let’s show our museums some love this May. 💙

Two new exhibitions are opening at the MVTM this Saturday! Join us on May 2 from 1pm - 4pm to celebrate the opening of "Carole Baillargeon: Rock Paper Scissors" and "Tartan: Culture & Cloth".

Curated by José Niaison, four bodies of work have been brought together in “Carole Baillargeon: Rock Paper Scissors”, offering an overview of Baillargeon’s artistic considerations and technical approaches. This exhibition is supported by Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec.

Hosted in partnership with Almonte Celtfest and curated by Meaghan Guthrie and Makayla Moore, “Tartan: Culture & Cloth” invites visitors to explore the history, heritage, and unexpected global journey of this iconic cloth. Tartan is more than just a fabric; it is a symbol of kinship, identity, and rebellion woven through centuries and across cultures.

All ‘postcards’ must be made on paper or textile bases and should include an element of fabric and/or stitching to showcase your unique style. Whether you’re a seasoned textile artist, an enthusiastic hobbyist, or trying something new, your contribution is welcome and will be displayed in the exhibition.

Please ensure your postcard reaches us by 1 August 2026. It’s an opportunity to be part of a vibrant, inclusive community celebration of art, nature and memory.
