Two days ago, my first and only real art teacher passed away at the remarkable age of 105. Mary MacGillivray was an Antigonish icon, a multi-talented artist and educator with a huge heart who launched countless budding artists and left behind a legacy of love and creativity. For most of us, our first encounters with Mary were in her home basement studio, where all kids were welcomed in for after-school art lessons and offered a safe and fun space to dabble with all the art supplies we could possibly handle. Later, most of us ended up in her high school art classes where she continued to foster inspiration with a relaxed and fun teaching style. She was one of a kind... a generous, creative soul, as crazy as the colourful clothes she wore. Everybody loved Mary. She will be missed by so many of us.

Sorry about the delay on revealing the identity of the 'mystery eyes' in the painting started in Germany last month. The only free day I have is Sunday, and every Sunday since I got back from Germany has been packed with life's obligations. I finally got a couple hours yesterday to finish the painting.

And yes, it is my first, and still mightiest guitar hero, Bruce Cockburn. A gold star to Debbie, who nailed it without even breaking a sweat, though I think there were a few other musical souls whose spider senses were tingling.
