The Art circle met this morning on a beautiful spring day. There was, as always, great discussions, lots of laughs and creative moments. We missed Don’s music but he and Patrick Mills were out on the street painting in real life. What a great way to draw in on lookers!!

Our plein air group journeyed off to Waba cottage in White Lake to sketch. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, the plants were growing. What a beautiful location.

This afternoon the Arnprior Art Loft hosted a workshop on framing. The workshop provided hand on opportunities to use a mat cutter, but also demonstrated the process of dismantling and cleaning a used frame, double matting, reusing old mats, how to use hanging tape, matching a picture to a frame and mat, backing the picture and attaching hanging wire. It was certainly intensive and highlighted how time consuming and detailed the process can be. Intensive but a good learning experience. Thank you to one and all who attended and to Susan for allowing her picture to be used for the framing process. The final picture is in the photo below in a before and after frame.

The Art Circle gathered at the Arnprior Art Loft this morning creating and listening to Don play and sing. This adds so much to the ambiance and we are so grateful for his talents.

A great day for plein air. We visited Galilee this afternoon to enjoy the beautiful spring weather, the sound of birds, the wind in the trees, the views of the river, the calmness and serenity, of this enclave of nature in the middle of Arnprior. We also got an impromptu tour of Martha’s House which has opened for public use.

The Arnprior Art Loft is hosting a workshop on framing basics on Saturday May 23 from 1-3 at the Arnprior Art Loft. The workshop will demonstrate how to use second hand frames, how to mat pictures, how to “finish pictures” and prepare for gallery hanging. We will also be exploring the use of mat cutters. We will be using a painting generously provided by a member of our Saturday morning Art Circle for the demo. Bring along a painting you want to frame, and some suggestions can be offered. The workshop is geared to paintings that need to be protected by glass - watercolour, pastels, graphite, charcoal. Message if you require more information. This is a free workshop, but please message the Art Loft if you plan to attend. We will need to have a number for planning purposes.

A lovely morning at the Art Circle. We talked about “being an artist”. Many are reluctant to say “I am an artist”. Art is a personal outward expression of your own inner world. What you do may not always appeal to everyone out there, but if creating it, gives you pleasure, it is art. What a great discussion!!
