Athens and Area Heritage Museum

Athens and Area Heritage Museum We are dedicated to preserving, archiving, and promoting the history of Athens. The Athens Museum is operated by volunteers. We are open on Saturdays 10-12pm.

The Athens and Area Heritage Museum is operated by the Athens Heritage Society which is a committee of the Municipal Council and has been in existence since 2004. We have permanent displays relating to Mother Barnes, Dr. Leonora Howard King, the Lambs Pharmacy, the British Home Children, The Heroine of Charleston, Crawford Slack Paintings, an operating telephone switchboard and much more, Children

's activities and programming is available as well as a large archives of local history photos, information and artefacts. The society is interested in collecting and scanning any related materials and urges public participation.

Athens Tribute to Victoria Day
The Sovereign's birthday has been celebrated in Canada since the reign of Queen Victoria (1837-1901). May 24, Queen Victoria's birthday, was declared a holiday by the Legislature of the Province of Canada in 1845, It is the 4th Monday of May. The Golden Age in Athens was near the end of her reign when the village bustled with merchants and businesses. VICTORY STREET was a main business area and included Duncan Fisher’s Carriage Works, T. S. Stevens Undertaker and Carriage Works, Kerfoot Photography Studio, Jacob’s Black Smith Shop, an early school, and more.
