Christmas is now past, New Year’s Day will be here shortly. I know I haven’t posted in a while, at this time of year somethings get pushed aside, coupled with being outside of the country, that doesn’t help either, but when your spouses family lives overseas, than you have to travel to see them!
So what’s new at the museum, we recently had a new metal roof installed, so that means, we won’t need to replace the asphalt one we had for years!
So that’s a good thing! When we took our trip overseas, you always learn something new, when we think of where our Canadian war dead is we think of places like Vimy Ridge in France or numerous other Canadian military cemeteries!
As you may know, my wife is from the Philippines, but has been in Canada for over 30 years now, and is now a Canadian Citizen.
In the Capitol city of the Philippines named Manila, there is Two Military cemeteries, both are American Military cemeteries, one is called the American Military Cemetery and is located right at the Manila skyline, so when you look out the skyscrapers windows you will see it!
The other Military cemetery is Called Clark, it is located on what was the American Airforce Base of the same name, Clark AB has been closed due to the the huge volcano eruption of around 20 years ago!
Both cemeteries is maintained by American Battlefield Commission. This commission has been tasked with ensuring that these Cemeteries are maintained, with the highest standards!
To be interned at these cemeteries, you must be a military veteran and meet the criteria of the Battlefield Commission and the host country!
In the Philippines there is no Canadian Military Cemetery, but history tells us Canadian military members served in the Country of the Philippines, at Clark Military Cemetery, these is one gravesite, which is not a American war dead. There is American war dead and Philippine scouts who served with American forces there from ww2!
At Clark the Battlefied commission approved the burial of A Canadian military veteran there, who served with the Canadian Royal Navy, from many many years ago!
So this Canadian veteran lies with those he served with!
So as winter is here the Museum is now closed until around the second week of April 2024, so we’ll see you in 2024!!! Keep safe and Happy New Years!
