The goal of this restoration project is to share this wonderful story and physical property representing Irish emigration, pioneer living, and heritage restoration for the community and interested parties to partake in living history.

This is an exciting story that began almost 200 years ago of persistence and family endurance. From early arrivals and establishment in Canada in 1830 to 2018 when the homestead, farming lands and rich heritage artifacts have been reclaimed by the vastly adept Alan Duffy and Duffy family.

"A new theatre performance exploring the weight of keeping traditional Irish music alive and the artist’s need to express their true self.

Danny O’Mahony has dedicated his life to the mastery of his instrument as well as to the preservation and performance of Irish traditional music. Now, after 40 years of breathing life into centuries-old tunes to honour the memory of those who have come before him, this walking repository is finally taking a breath, a moment to stop and consider what this lifelong dedication has cost him.

This play is part of the Canada Ireland Foundation’s Bealtaine Theatre Festival, which brings the best of Irish Theatre to Toronto on stage May 27-30, 2026."

This is a steel candle snuffer from 1710!

The wicks of Colonial Period candles did not burn up completely as the candle wax melted, meaning the wick would get steadily longer and the flame larger.

To avoid a fire risk, the wick had to be trimmed, or "snuffed," to keep it at a safe length.

Candle snuffers allowed this task to be done safely without putting out the candle: a small box fitted to the scissor blades would catch the burnt wick after cutting it from the rest of the candle.
