The gallery is closed today in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

September 30 is a day to honour First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. It is also an opportunity to remember the children who were taken from their families and communities and to reflect on the ongoing legacy of the residential school system.

September 30 is also Orange Shirt Day, which grew from the experience of Phyllis Webstad, who, as a child, had her orange shirt taken from her on her first day at residential school. The colour orange has since become a symbol of remembrance, recognition, and the importance of ensuring that the experiences of residential school Survivors and the children who never returned home are not forgotten.
