🌊 The tide is coming in, and it's bringing a new Collection Facility Feature post!
"The 375-ton barque, Lizzie Cameron, was built in Souris West in 1874 by James McLauchlan. The three-masted ship was used to transport various cargo between PEI and England. The Lizzie Cameron completed many voyages but the ship would meet its fate in June of 1882 when it collided with an iceberg and sank in the Atlantic Ocean, 150 miles east of Newfoundland. It is unknown if any of the crew survived. The artist of this painting is unknown.
Flags were used in combination with each other to communicate the intentions of the ship waiting at anchor. In this painting, the yellow and yellow with blue flags visible at the stern indicate that the ship is requesting permission to enter the port of Souris."
