BIG NEWS FROM THE AGN: Youth Election Sticker Contest Winners
The Art Gallery of Northumberland, in partnership with the Town of Cobourg Legislative Services Division, is proud to highlight the talented winners of the 2026 Youth "I Voted" Sticker Contest:

Congratulations to Desi and Walter! Their incredible designs came out on top in their respective age categories and will serve as the official stickers for the municipal and school board election.

These stickers will be available at Voter Help Centres and the Clerk’s Office at Victoria Hall.

ART TERM TUESDAY: En Plein Air

Definition: French for "in the open air," en plein air is simply the act of painting or drawing outdoors, right in front of your subject.

Why does it matter?
For centuries, artists blended paints inside dark, controlled studios. But in the mid-1800s, two gamechangers happened: the invention of pre-mixed paint in tubes and portable box easels. Suddenly, artists could pack up their gear, step outside, and chase the natural light!

It completely changed art history, giving birth to Impressionism. Instead of painting a perfect, static picture, plein air artists try to capture a fleeting moment—how the sun hits a building at 2:00 PM, or how the wind moves through the autumn trees.

It’s all about feeling the environment, dealing with the elements (yes, bugs and sudden breeze included!), and creating in the moment.

This November 19th at 7 p.m., the Art Gallery of Northumberland proudly presents Spotlight Series 8, our signature annual event in support of arts education programming for all ages.

Each year, Spotlight brings the community together for a powerful evening of live, multi-media performance featuring local artists – emerging and established – who open up their creative process in real time. This year, Ray Dillard and Stuart Ross take centre stage, inviting us into their world of sound, words, and live performance.

BEHIND THE SCENES: That’s a wrap on an amazing season of Little Creators! 🎨👶

Our hearts are so full as our Little Creators program comes to a close for the season. Over the past few weeks, the Art Gallery of Northumberland has been filled with the absolute best kinds of energy: big imaginations, bright colours, and plenty of happy, messy hands!

From exploring raw textures and sensory play to crafting their very first gallery-worthy masterpieces, our littlest artists brought so much joy into our space. We’ve loved watching their confidence grow with every brushstroke, stamp, and scribble.

A massive thank you to all the wonderful parents, grandparents, and caregivers who brought their creative little ones to the gallery each week. You made this season truly unforgettable!

PLEIN AIR PAINTING: Love to paint or want to try painting outdoors? The Art Gallery of Northumberland is exploring the launch of a new, free AGN Plein Air Group!

Whether you are a seasoned pro or picking up a brush for the first time, join us for a friendly, informal outdoor session to capture Northumberland's beautiful landscape and connect with fellow artists. All skill levels and drawing/painting mediums are welcome.

📍 First Gathering Details:
• Date & Time: Sunday, October 25 | 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
• Location: Legacy Antiques property (3565 Hickerson Road, Baltimore, ON)
• What to expect: ~2 hours of painting followed by an optional, relaxed group share (no pressure to show your work!). A basic supply list and beginner tips will be provided.

If there's enough interest, we will continue with regular, free sessions throughout the fall to capture the spectacular autumn colors!
