The Doak Provincial Heritage Site commemorates Scottish entrepreneur, Robert Doak, who moved to this Upper Miramichi lot with his family in 1825. Here, he established a carding mill, a grist mill, and a sawmill. Robert Doak held various prestigious positions within his community. When the post office first came to the area, a name had to be chosen. Since Doak was a prominent citizen, the area was

named after him, originally as Doaktown. However, in 1854 when the “great” highway was opened, the community was renamed Doaktown in honour of Squire Doak. Visit the Doak House and note the architectural importance of this unique home and the richness of its original furniture preserved by several generations of owners from the Doak family.
