The Loyal Edmonton Regiment Military Museum

The Loyal Edmonton Regiment Military Museum Dedicated to preserving the military heritage of the Loyal Edmonton Regiment and other central and northern Alberta military units.

The Loyal Edmonton Regiment Military Museum is dedicated to preserving the military heritage of the Loyal Edmonton Regiment and other central and northern Alberta military units. Since 1997, we have been located at the Prince of Wales Armouries Heritage Centre, the building where the regiment was based from 1920 to 1965. The museum features two galleries and a series of open area displays tracing

the history of the regiment and military history of Canada. Artefacts on display include uniforms and military equipment, memorabilia, weapons and ceremonial artefacts from the First World War to the present. The museum also stores a vast collection of books, photographic, archival, documentary artefacts dating from the late nineteenth century onwards. The museum is operated by The Loyal Edmonton Regiment Museum Foundation, a non-profit foundation. Day-to-day operations are carried out by a small staff and a group of volunteers who work in classifying, cataloguing, and storing the artefacts, or in other tasks related to displays and records. Additionally, the museum office is the home of The Fortyniner, the annual journal of The Loyal Edmonton Regiment Association.

Today we did a thing at the Loyal Edmonton Regiment Military Museum to honour a former member of the Regiment and his contribution and support for the Museum. The staff and Board Members hosted Andrew Weninger and few of his friends to a potluck lunch at the Museum. We presented Andrew with our statue of "George", a 3D printed model of the WW1 soldier depicted on the original 49er Magazine. The museum office was renamed the Andrew Weninger Room. Thanks from all of us at the museum for all you do for the museum.

We would like to recognize Renee Charbonneau of Grande Prairie, Alberta, for her unwavering dedication, support, and outreach in preserving the history of our regiment across northern Alberta.

As the driving force behind the Veterans Memorial Gardens in Grande Prairie and one of the leading researchers documenting the lives of former soldiers of the Loyal Edmonton Regiment and the 49th Battalion (Edmonton Regiment), Renée has devoted countless hours to ensuring their stories are never forgotten.

Through her commitment to remembrance, she is not only preserving the legacy of our regiment but also reconnecting Albertan families with the service and sacrifice of their loved ones. Her work has touched the lives of countless people and continues to inspire future generations.

Today, we proudly recognize and thank Renee Charbonneau for her outstanding service to our regimental family and to the history of Alberta.

Thank you, Renee.

Merci, Renee.

Donald Robert Watson served overseas during the Second World War with both the Loyal Edmonton Regiment and the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps.

We were very pleased to recently receive his medals as a donation to the Regimental Museum. They will help us preserve not only Donald’s story, but also the stories of so many other Eddies of his generation who served Canada in wartime.

We are grateful for this meaningful donation and honoured to help keep his memory alive.
