The playoffs are here. The intensity feels familiar. 🏒

But this feeling isn’t new.

Inside our collection is a jersey worn by Maurice Richard during the 1945-1946 season; a year the Habs won the Cup.

Our conservation team works with precision: analyzing the fibres, stabilizing fragile areas, reinforcing existing repairs, and preserving every detail without erasing its history.

Because here, we don’t restore to make something look new. We conserve to keep its story intact.

In recognition of Jewish Heritage Month, we’re highlighting this beautifully decorated “ketubah” (Jewish marriage certificate) from the national collection, created to mark a couple’s 40th anniversary. 🤵👰

Born in the Soviet Union and Canada, the couple’s story is reflected in the artwork: Toronto’s skyline with the CN Tower and Moscow’s St. Basil’s Cathedral appear in the lower corners, while Jerusalem crowns the scene above.

Written in Aramaic and adorned with symbolic and floral motifs, “ketubot” are not only legal marriage documents but also works of art often cherished and passed down from generation to generation in Jewish communities. This piece is a powerful example of how Jewish heritage, identity, and personal history can be beautifully interwoven through tradition and artistic expression.

The Canadian Museum of History extends its warmest congratulations to Louise Arbour on her appointment as Governor General of Canada. 🇨🇦🎉

Throughout her remarkable career, Mme Arbour has helped shape Canada and the world — from her role as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, to serving as the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, to making history as the chief prosecutor who indicted then-Serbian President Milošević for his crimes against humanity.

We invite you to explore Mme Arbour’s story in her own words through our Shaping Canada project, where she reflects on the experiences that defined her career and her impact on justice and human rights.

The Paper Trail Towards the Sun is a mural created by local artist Eric Chan, aka eepmon.

This artwork explores the impact of the Chinese Immigration Act of 1923, also called the Chinese Exclusion Act. From 1923 to 1947, this law banned Chinese immigration to Canada and Chinese immigrants already in Canada had to always carry ID.

As we mark the start of Asian Heritage Month, we invite you to learn more about this period in history by viewing the mural, situated near the Canadian History Research Centre, and by exploring the Canadian History Hall.
