The Masonic Lodge, Georgetown, PEI on the day of its burning--November 21, 1977. Photo taken by Bea Mair. This building stood about where the Kent Street entrance to the A. A. Macdonald Memorial Gardens is today. Bea saved one of it's windows and it is now on display in The Mair Family Museum in Georgetown.

OPENING FOR THE SEASON!!
The Mair Family Museum is opening for the season June 1st from 9am until 12 noon. This first week of June, the museum will be open Monday to Friday from 9am until noon. Closed Saturday and Sunday, June 6th and 7th.
The museum is located on the corner of Kent and Richmond Streets in Georgetown. Admission by donation.

Downtown Georgetown, PEI about 1980. This picture is a series of pictures taped together in order to provide a more panoramic view of the corner of Kent Street and Richmond Street looking north. Lloyd Soloman happened to be walking on the street at the time Bea Mair took this series of pictures and made the notes underneath.
Note that what is now "Daryl's Convenience Store" was, at that time, McConnell's Clover Farm with Harry and Jim McConnell as proprietors. Also note, if you zoom in, you can see that the sign "Clover Farm" lost it's c, r and f which left "love arm" on the sign. This was a local joke for a number of years. Let's step back in time and go to the "Love Arm" for groceries.

Foundation of the "new" school in Georgetown, PEI, 1957. These three photographs were taken as building of the current school in Georgetown began. The third picture was the last day of the old school before it was torn down. It's nice to see the old Jenkins house standing in the background and some of the other buildings that stood at that time in Georgetown.
Photos 4,5 and 6 are thanks to Charlie Hansen who spent the time to use his technology to make these clearer copies of the original pictures.

Corner of Kent Street and Water Street in Georgetown, PEI (circa 1980, photo by Bea Mair). The Irving garage which was eventually torn down. Next is an old warehouse that was a store (owned by Les Lavers) in an earlier time. This building was destroyed by fire. Next is the hardware store that was Nicholson's at the time of this photo, but was previously owned by Ray Solomon. This is now (2026) the Georgetown Inn. The building further up the street (that still stands today and is next to Daryl's store) was originally an Inn that the stage coach would stop at for travelers going to other communities on PEI. It has had many proprietors over the years including The Globe rooms and restaurant and later a funeral home. This building is now owned by Mr. Scully. Notice also, all the lovely big trees that lined the streets of Georgetown in the past. Many were chopped down because of the Dutch elm disease.

The old Georgetown, PEI Legion stood on Grafton Street across from the Kings Playhouse. This picture was taken in 1977 during the Georgetown Days celebrations. Arm Wrestling competitions were taking place inside. What fun!

Georgetown School, PEI, Grades 7 and 8 of 1956. Arnold Murphy was the teacher of this class at that time. What wonderful children with their whole lives ahead of them.
Photo 2 and 3 help sort out names and faces, but was done years ago, so it is not very clear and perhaps not 100 accurate.
Photo #4 is a "Re-do" using tech. which helps make the faces clearer. Thanks to Charlie Hansen.

The McKeeman sisters of Georgetown, PEI, (circa 1895). From left to right: Ina, Olive and Carrie. Ina married John Hemphill. They were parents of Lillian who married Allister "Sandy" Stewart. Olive died young, but had a daughter (Madeline). Carrie married John Hansen (as his second wife after his first wife, Sophia Burke, died). John and Sophia were parents of Nelson Hansen who married Isabel Lavers.

Everyone has a hat on! Georgetown, PEI (circa 1916). The young men from left to right are: Jack Fairchild (eating a banana), Willard Yorston, Allister Stewart, Ben Conrad and Cliff Conrad. The young women are: Dorothy Doyle, Kit Fairchild and Eileen Hibbitt. Unfortunately, the picture is not very clear. I am not sure what building they are standing in front of. Does anyone have a guess?
