Our final exhibition of 2026, AGOG is excited to feature Enid Petherick’s “Dare to Dream” showcase, which includes paintings depicting scenes from the 2010 Winter Olympics Ice Skating competition, along with other works inspired by nature and her surrounding environments.

Enid is a local artist residing in both Golden and the Blaeberry. About her work, she comments: “When I watch cutting edge athletes, I think of their dedication and hard work, the sacrifices and pain the athletes have endured in reaching for their dreams. As an artist, I have studied the complexities of the human body. Because of my experience of paralysis and malfunction, I [have taken classes to learn about] dissection and explanation of joints and muscles to better understand movement. It has led to immense respect and appreciation of what pro athletes demand of their bodies.”

We look forward to welcoming Enid’s work with an Opening Reception on Friday, October 23rd, from 5pm - 7pm. Light refreshments and snacks will be available. We hope to see you there!

It’s peak bear season, even here at AGOG! 😉🐻

This quilted friend, titled “How to Kill A Bear” by Kyra Sinéad, is on display here in the gallery until this Saturday, October 16th. It’s been such a pleasure to have Kyra’s whimsical line of work, “Understory”, reminding us of the fragility of life and the power of leaving space for both grief and creativity in a story.

If you haven’t been to see the exhibit, this is your reminder to come by this week. If you’ve already seen it — stop in again! As traffic slows down ahead of shoulder season, we’re always happy to connect with our Golden locals and visitors alike and praise the beautiful fall weather together.

What a pleasure to host the opening reception of Kyra Sinéad’s “Understory” exhibition — her first solo exhibition!

Kyra speaks to the significant of place in her art, as well as processing emotions and how her work embodies seasons and cycles of life. Her display includes work of various mediums, including cyanotype and film prints, painting, pencil drawings, textile, and ceramic sculptures.

We invite you to spend some time with this deeply meaningful and curious work while it’s on display this month. Thank you for Kyra and all the wonderful community members who joined us for a celebratory evening last night! ✨🐌🌿

This exhibit features over 20 local artists who speak for the forest in this collaborative, educational art display celebrating the Inland Temperate Rainforest. 🫎🍄‍🟫🌨️

Highlights from “The Art of Migration”, on display until August 7th.

This exhibition is a travelling group show hosted in partnership with the Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy (CBAL). Each piece is created by a different artist residing in the Kootenays who was paired with a newcomer to Canada; their task was to listen to the newcomer’s migration story and translate it into their artistic medium of choice. As a result, this exhibition features eleven stories about the triumphs and challenges faced by these newcomers to Canada, and how “home” is a multilayered experience for all of us.

CBAL is an organization within the Columbia Basin (with an office in Golden) that offers literacy programs and support services for families, youth, adults, and seniors; they also provide language and settlement services for newcomers to the region. AGOG is privileged to host “The Art of Migration” in our gallery space as an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of “home” and how the places we live in are shaped by the lived experiences of others.

Columbia Basin Literacy

“I create to instil a sense of awe and adventure. I want my photos to inspire anyone who sees them to get out there and nurture their appreciation for this planet.”

These are words from Christopher Dehart, () an emerging photographer featured in our exhibition for this month, titled “Yes, This is Home”.

As a proud member of the Shuswap Band, he grew up in the East Kootenay region and began his pursuit of photography in 2019 at age 14. Wildlife was his first focus as it was a way to share with the world what he saw and what he loved. His lens gradually shifted towards landscape imagery, which is largely what is shown in his work feature at AGOG.

June is National Indigenous History Month, an important time to recognize and honour First Nations, Inuit and Métis People. It is a dedicated time to hear and celebrate their stories, voices and perspectives. We invite you to view Christopher’s work at the gallery, on until June 30th, and witness his dedication to capturing the beauty of the natural world.
