The City of Greater Sudbury is holding a model railroading party in April, 2012. You’re invited to a great city with tremendous model railways and traditional northern hospitality. The event will be at the Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel close to downtown Sudbury. A tour of VALE (formerly INCO) transportation is an extra fare item @ $30. Non-NMRA members must take out a six month ‘Railpass’ membership
in the NMRA for $10.Visits to a variety of extraordinary model layouts are planned including various scales from Z to G and from basement empires to a backyard shortline and table top compact layouts. There are many opportunities for watching 1:1 rail action in the region, beginning with the backyard of the HoJo, located beside CPR’s Sudbury yard and transcontinental main line. On Sunday there will be a special opening of the Northern Ontario Railroad Museum in Capreol, the Canadian National division point within the City of Greater Sudbury. If you wonder what a real ‘6060 Class’ locomotive looks like close up, this is your chance since CN 6077 is the centrepiece of the museum’s outdoor displays.
