We were pleased to be invited back to speak at another OMIA training seminar this week!
Our team presented on total loss determinations and valuations from the appraiser’s perspective, and we also had some fun with a Quest and Trivia round alongside the attendees.
It was a great day spent with valued clients, industry peers, and some new faces. We’re always grateful to be included in these training opportunities and appreciate the continued support and collaboration within our industry!

Over the past few months, Golden Horseshoe Appraisals has been incredibly busy supporting charities and community initiatives that are important to both us and our valued clients.

From sponsoring the Bob Kemp Care Network Hope on the Green Golf Day, the Co****le for Hospice benefiting Chatham-Kent Hospice, to the 16th Annual Golf Tournament supporting the Terry Fox Foundation, the WICC Relay For Life benefiting the Canadian Cancer Society, and recent 2026 OIAA Nine & Dine Golf Tournament sponsorships — it’s been an honour to give back alongside so many great people and organizations.

We are proud to have contributed over $7,000 in support of these incredible causes and industry events. We look forward to continuing to make a positive impact in the communities we serve.

Thank you to our clients, partners, and community members who help make this possible.

🔧 A Word of Caution from 40+ Years in the Field
Spring is here, and for many drivers across the country, that means one thing: time to swap those winter tires back to summer rubber. It's a routine seasonal task — but one that carries a serious safety risk when it's not done correctly.
After more than four decades in the insurance appraisal business, our team has inspected more vehicles than we care to count where the claim came down to one simple, preventable cause: a wheel that came off the vehicle.
It sounds dramatic — because it is. A wheel separating from a moving vehicle is one of the most dangerous mechanical failures on the road. It can cause the driver to lose complete control, and a detached wheel can become a deadly projectile for other drivers and pedestrians.
The fix is simple: use a torque wrench.
Whether you're having your tires swapped at a shop or doing it yourself, always verify that every lug nut or wheel bolt is torqued to the vehicle manufacturer's specifications — not just "tightened until it feels tight." Impact guns and hand-tightening alone are no substitute for proper torque.
Here's what to keep in mind:
• Every vehicle has a specific torque specification for its wheel fasteners — check your owner's manual or look it up by make and model
• Use a calibrated torque wrench, not just an impact gun
• Torque in a star pattern to ensure even seating of the wheel
• Re-check torque after driving 50–100 km, as fasteners can settle slightly after the first drive
We've seen the aftermath of what happens when this step is skipped. Please don't let it happen to you or your family.
Stay safe out there this season. 🚗

Six years ago this week, the world as we knew it suddenly paused. Streets were quiet, businesses closed their doors, and uncertainty seemed to be everywhere. The COVID shutdown changed so much about our daily lives, but it also revealed something powerful about our communities. In the midst of the unknown, people showed up for each other. Neighbours checked in on neighbours. Local businesses supported one another. Frontline workers gave everything they had. Families and friends found new ways to stay connected, even from a distance. It reminded us that when times are difficult, kindness matters more than ever. A small gesture, a helping hand, or simply looking out for one another can make all the difference. Six years later, that lesson still holds true. Community is built through compassion, resilience, and the willingness to care for the people around us. Today, we reflect on how far we’ve come and remember that the strength of any community is found in the way its people support each other. Let’s continue to check in, lend a hand, and take care of one another.
