Ninety years ago today, ORP Błyskawica was launched at Cowes on the Isle of Wight. Six years later she came back and defended the town that built her. The video tells the story.

Today she is moored at the Muzeum Marynarki Wojennej w Gdyni, deck open to visitors, and she is a Tier VII destroyer in World of Warships.

This footage is 127 years old, and the ship in it is still afloat.

On 29 September 1899, New York welcomed Admiral George Dewey home from the Philippines with two days of parades. The first was on the water. USS Olympia, the cruiser that had opened the Battle of Manila Bay seventeen months earlier, led a line of warships, steamers and tugboats up the Hudson, and fired a 21-gun salute as she passed Grant's Tomb.

Edison's film company sent eight camera crews to record Dewey's return. This is one of their films, now kept by the Library of Congress.

Olympia is still afloat at Independence Seaport Museum in Philadelphia. You can walk the same deck you see here.

This is the inside of a 16-inch gun turret on USS New Jersey, filmed aboard the ship in Camden together with . Each barrel is nearly 67 feet long and fired a shell weighing 2,700 pounds.
