Today was BYOT Day* at HOMES, and a number of members seem to have had a good Christmas!

We started the morning with an un-boxing of a brand new Royal Hudson #1239. After a couple of warm-up laps of the full club layout, the Hudson was hooked up to a long CPR passenger train in staging. The happy new owner spent a couple of hours traversing the layout, complete with station stops and meets with other trans.

Early morning of an event day at HOMES: Doors not open yet; early arriving members doing some last-minute prep. This is the view from the dispatcher's cabin, looking down Hunter St toward the tunnel. The room door is 45' straight ahead of you; DS cabin, lounge and staging are in another room behind you.

Come see it when it's full of people!

There are lots of ways to do model railroading, and it can encompass other hobbies and interests. Tom Shepherd's layout in Jordan Station has lots of trains, but even more model cars, trucks and buses. And structures, many of which you might recognise from movies and television. There's a Canadian town at one end, and an American town the other. See it on the tour!

Mike Scott's 5th layout was part of building a new house. He had the architect design the train room first, then design the rest of the house around it. He arranged for Lance Mindheim to design the track plan, and it's featured in Lance's book, “How to Design a Model Railroad”

The layout is designed for both continuous running and operations, with long mainline runs and lots of scenery. It also includes a large yard and industrial switching in the City of Fort William. Two full sets of Rapido’s “The Canadian” operate on the layout with a total of 20 locomotives and 200 pieces of rolling stock normally available for operations. It takes about 10 minutes for a train to complete a circuit of the 245’ mainline.

It's worth the drive to Welland to see, and it's on the tour!
