Cape Breton Clay Cape Breton Clay is a gallery located in the scenic Margaree Valley on Cape Breton
Island, just a stone’s throw from Nova Scotia’s Cabot Trail.

Bell Fraser's images of fish, shellfish, flora and fauna found on the Island, reflect the bounty of the waters and surrounding hills of Cape Breton. Bell was born and raised in Margaree Valley, Cape Breton and has been working with clay since 1986. After studying painting and ceramics at the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design in Halifax, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1990, i

n 1996 she opened our gallery in Margaree with Stewart Applegath, who also studied at NSCAD and received an MFA at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago. Bell has been making pottery ever since.

2014 is a year of change which finds us renovating and reinvigorating our original gallery and finds Bell refining a new style of work, with completely new glazes and designs. This new work really highlights Bell's fine drawings even more than does the terracotta work we became known for. We sell most of our work in our Valley gallery, on the property where Bell grew up, and there is always a good selection should you be in the neighbourhood!
