Agnes Etherington Art Centre

Agnes Etherington Art Centre A curatorially-driven art museum, Agnes creates opportunities for participation and exchange across communities, cultures, temporalities, and geographies.

Situated on traditional Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee Territory, Agnes is a curatorially-driven and research‐intensive professional art centre that proudly serves a dual mandate as a leading, internationally recognized public art gallery and as an active pedagogical resource at Queen’s University. By commissioning, researching, collecting and preserving works of art, and through exhibiting and int

erpreting visual culture through an intersectional lens, Agnes creates opportunities for participation and exchange across communities, cultures, and geographies. Admission to the gallery is free; donations are welcome. History: The seeds of the Agnes were sown in 1926, with the formation of the Kingston Art and Music Club, of which Agnes Etherington (1880–1954) was a driving force. She nurtured the arts in Kingston throughout her life and, in her final years, drew up plans to bequeath her house, an elegant Neo-Georgian mansion, to Queen's University for use as a university and community art gallery. Agnes Etherington Art Centre opened to the public in 1957, with artist André Biéler as founding director. To fulfill the gallery's expanding functions, extensions to the gallery were added in 1962, 1975, and 2000.

Curious about printmaking? Join Inspired Impressions: Linocut Printmaking with Lisa Leskien (.on.the.loose)—an 8-week introduction to this bold and versatile medium.

You’ll hone your carving skills across both soft and traditional linoleum, working with blocks of different sizes and experimenting with a variety of tools and marks. Throughout the course, you’ll carve multiple blocks, exploring how different approaches translate into striking printed images while building confidence in your technique.

By the end, you’ll select your two strongest designs to develop into editions of 10 prints each—unique works of art to keep, share, or trade. Starts on 28 April 2026! Check out our website for full details and registration.
