MacLachlan Woodworking Museum

MacLachlan Woodworking Museum The museum is open for pre-registered programs and workshops. At this time, the museum is closed for tours. We all do it, but what does it say about us?

On permanent display are topics such as the versatility of wood, the nature of tool collecting, and how our use of wood has changed with time. Odds and Sods is an eclectic mix of objects that investigates the diverse ways wood was used in the past – from ice skates and sugar moulds to spoons and horse shoes. This interesting exhibit reminds the visitor of a time when wood was the most common build

ing material. Local Trees tells the changing story of wood use and reflects the societal change following mass production and standardization. The visitor is introduced to a number of tree species that once were typical in a woodworker’s shop but are now all but unknown. Ivor Blower – Inside the mind of a Collector explores the motivations behind people who collect. Why do we do it? Through recorded memoirs, activities and 300 hand planes from Blower’s personal collection we discover the motivations behind collecting patterns.

Our Story

Located on the beautiful shore of the St. Lawrence River in Grass Creek Park, the MacLachlan Woodworking Museum is your destination for hands-on building and discovery. A great place for schools and camps to visit for curriculum-based learning, the museum also offers workshops for entry level woodworkers, provides ready-to-make kits that are child friendly, and presents special events like the Lumberjack in June, Campfire Music Series on Thursday evenings, and Winterlight in December.

You are invited to bring a picnic lunch and explore Grass Creek Park and the museum from Tuesday to Sunday, 10am-5pm from May 1 to September 2. We are also open late on Thursdays from 5pm-8pm, June 28 to August 30.
