Main Gallery:
Our main exhibit gallery traces the 12,000 year human history of Waterloo Region, from First Nation's peoples, to European settlement at the start of the 1800s, to the manufacturing heydays of the 1900s, to the high tech sector boom of recent years. Visitors will discover the reasons why people from around the world have immigrated to this region of Canada - whether they came for lov

e, education, a better life, a new job or to find freedom. Doon Heritage Village:
Waterloo Region Museum is the entrance to Doon Heritage Village, a picturesque 60 acre living history village open seasonally. Doon Heritage Village shows visitors what life was like in Waterloo Region in the year 1914. The village comes to life with knowledgeable interpreters dressed in authentic 1914 clothing and features historic buildings, farm animals and fun activities the whole family will enjoy. Waterloo Region Hall of Fame:
Honouring people who make a difference! The Waterloo Region Hall of Fame is located on the second floor of the Waterloo Region Museum. The Waterloo Region Hall of Fame honours individuals and groups - now numbering more than 400 - for their significant contributions to the community. The Hall of Fame is overseen by a Board of Governors with representation from across Waterloo Region. Waterloo Region Museum and Doon Heritage Village are part of Region of Waterloo Museums that is made up of: Waterloo Region Museum/Doon Heritage Village, Schneider Haus National Historic Site, and McDougall Cottage Historic Site. Happy UN World Bee Day! 🐝

Today, we’re celebrating the tiny pollinators that keep our gardens growing, our ecosystems thriving, and our food systems buzzing along. Bees are so important for keeping people and our planet healthy, but the population of bees is declining rapidly. You can help by planting pollinator-friendly flowers, avoiding unnecessary pesticide use, and letting a little more nature bloom in your community. Let’s all bee a little kinder to the creatures that help the world blossom!

1958.018.003 - a bee skep or beehive made from coiled rye straw
1969.092.001 - a tin bee smoker with leather bellows attached
1974.095.001 - an excluder for trapping a Queen bee to remove it from the hive
1976.005.001 - a honey extractor for removing honey from honey comb

Slow your steps, awaken your senses, and reconnect with the quiet wisdom of the woods.

Join us for a guided Forest Therapy Walk led by Susan Reid of Deep Roots Walk through the peaceful natural areas surrounding Doon Heritage Village. This gentle, immersive experience invites you to slow your pace, awaken your senses, and deepen your connection with nature.

Through guided invitations inspired by the practice of forest bathing, Susan will help you tune into the sights, sounds, textures, and rhythms of the land. This is more than just a hike — it’s an opportunity to restore your nervous system, reduce stress, and reconnect with yourself through meaningful time outdoors.

Saturday, May 23 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

International Museum Day 2026 focuses on Museums Uniting a Divided World 🌍

🏛️ Museums are powerful bridges in our societies. As trusted public spaces and vital parts of our shared social fabric, they foster dialogue, understanding, and connection across cultures, generations, and borders—especially in times of division.

Are you visiting a museum today? All of our sites are open, pop in and explore our shared experiences.
