Le poète de Vancouver STEPHEN COLLIS rejoint Janice Gurney, Michelangelo Antonioni et Nico Pam Dick dans le projet en cours 1925-2025 à l’Endroit indiqué, Montréal.

1925 - 2025 : L’espace éphémère - Nico Pam Dick

Cet été L’Endroit indiqué a accueilli Janice Gurney, première contributrice à un cycle d’œuvres. Janice Gurney, à son tour, fait apparaître le film l’Eclisse de Michelangelo Antonioni. Maintenant on accueille NICO PAM DICK, deuxième (non, troisième) contributrice à cet événement cinématographique. Au cours des mois à venir, chaque nouveau participant ajoutera une couche au flux d’images, de mots et de choses. Une expo-fleuve. Nous nous demandons : en quoi consiste ce moment présent - ce moment crise, en quoi consiste une vie, en quoi consistent les points de repère d’une réflexion sur la pensée du « maintenant » ? This past summer l’Endroit indiqué welcomed Janice Gurney as the first contributor to a cycle of art works. Janice Gurney, in turn, drew in the film l’Eclisse by Michelangelo Antonioni. We now welcome artist and writer NICO PAM DICK to this ongoing cinematic event of moments, concocted expressly to be seen from the street. Over the next months, each new contributor will add a new layer to this flow of images, words and things. We are wondering what makes this present moment of crisis, what makes a life, what makes the reference points of a thoughtful reflection on what it is to think about ‘now.’ (Andrew Forster, fondation andré forestier)

JANICE GURNEY : La paix est faible / Peace is Weak

J’étais fortement attirée par les images des films de Michelangelo Antonioni, la beauté de leur structure à la fois luxuriante et austère. Mon travail récent avec les photos de films est plus direct : l’image que j’ai utilisée dans La paix est faible est tirée du film d’Antonioni L’Éclipse (1962) : c’est celle de l’arrière de la tête d’un homme qui marche sur un passage pour piétons en lisant un journal italien dont le gros titre est sinistre. Elle se juxtapose à l’image de l’arrière de la tête d’une femme qui traverse la rue en lisant un journal. La manchette de celui-ci est traduite (en français et en anglais pour cette exposition). La deuxième photo a été prise 60 ans après la réalisation du film. Le titre trouve encore un écho en nous aujourd’hui. (Janice Gurney)

I have been stongly drawn to the images in the films of Michelangelo Antonioni. The beauty of their structure is both lush and stark. My recent work with film stills is more direct.The still that I used in La paix est faible /Peace is Weak is taken from Antonioni’s film L’Eclisse (1962). The image is of the back of a man’s head as he walks in a crosswalk while reading an Italian newspaper with a bleak headline. It is juxtaposed with an image of the back of a woman’s head as she walks in a crosswalk while reading a newspaper. The headline in her newspaper is translated (for this exhibition into French and English). The second photograph was taken 60 years after the film was made. The headline still resonates with us today. (Janice Gurney)
