With it being the Erie Shores Golf & Country Club's 100th anniversary this year every golfer from over the last century can thank this man - Robert Trail Gray - for being its designer and first pro (1926 to 1935). Gray had previously designed courses in London and Chatham prior to coming here. In 1926 he opened its first three holes - today's #5, 6 and 17. By the end of 1927 the front nine were completed and by the end of 1928 the back nine finished. He gave lessons before the course opened and used the fairgrounds and the rooftop of the Leamington Hotel (corner princess St. and Talbot St. E.) during the fall and winter of 1925. Gray passed away in 1955 after a long, distinguished career as a pro.
