June is National Indigenous History Month!

This month, we recognize and reflect on the histories, cultures, and enduring contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples across Canada.

The land now known as Lincoln was once home to several groups of Iroquoian-speaking Indigenous peoples who lived mainly along the northern shores of Lake Ontario and Lake Erie. Before approximately 1650, this area was inhabited by peoples of the Neutral Nation Confederacy.

In 1615, Samuel de Champlain referred to the peoples in this region as “la Nation Neutre” (the Neutral Nation) because of their perceived peace with both the Five Nations and the Huron-Wendat. The Huron-Wendat referred to them as “Attawandaron,” meaning “people whose speech is awry” or “people of a slightly different language”, but we do not know what they called themselves.

📖🪴National Indigenous History Month is an opportunity to learn more about the rich histories and knowledge systems that continue to shape this region today!

June is often a time of reflection and celebration for LGBTQ2S+ history. At times, American history can get mixed up within our own. Perhaps you have never even heard the Canadian perspective of Pride Month. Here is a brief history of significant events!

As we enter June and Pride Month, it is an opportune time to reflect upon the resilience and triumph of the LGBTQ2S+ community throughout the years in Canada.

A little bit of design joy! These Cir-Q-Lar playing cards produced by John Waddington Ltd turn a simple deck into a playful graphic statement. Bold, circular, and very cool.

May is Museum Months, and we’re celebrating the impact museums have in our communities every day.

In 2025, the Lincoln Museum & Cultural Centre welcomed nearly 16,000 visitors, engaged more than 9,900 participants through programs and events, and connected with over 2,200 students through school programming. From exhibitions and outreach to tours of our historic buildings, these numbers represent thousands of moments of learning, connection, curiosity, and community.

Museums are more than places that preserve the past. They are spaces where people gather, ask questions, share stories, and build relationships across generations.

Thank you to our visitors, volunteers, donors, community partners, and supporters for helping make this work possible. Your support continues to shape the Museum into a welcoming place to learn, connect, and grow.
