Please join us this weekend, Sunday May 17th from 1 to 3, to meet the artist Svetlana Turov as she discusses her current exhibition 'The Soul of Aqua".

Her work draws deeply from the natural world around her. "The falls at Niagara, the harbor light at Bronte, the shifting colors of Lake Ontario through the seasons are not backdrops to my life, but the living source of my work, says Svetlana. "I have always been drawn to the places where water meets land, where stillness and force exist side by side. I work in fibre because no other medium gives me what wool and silk do: surfaces that hold light the way water does, textures that shift depending on how you stand before them."

We welcome Svetlana Turov, known professionally as sFeltLana, to the Spotlight for May and June. Svetlana lives and works in Burlington, Ontario - steps from the landscapes that define her art. She works in fibre, transforming wool, silk, and fabric through wet felting, Nuno felting, and fabric painting onto surfaces that are simultaneously painting and sculpture, richly textured and alive with color and light.

While at first glance the images above may appear unlikely comparisons, each focuses on the stillness of its subject. Through the use of perspective, we are drawn into the created space and enlightened to the shape, form and colour of objects upon a reflective surface. Care to discuss with the artists? You have a chance to do just that as Cathy Boyd and Elena Khudoyarova will be in the gallery on Sunday, November 2 from 1-3 p.m. We would love to see you there! Light refreshments will be served. Beautiful landscapes by Cathy Boyd. In the Spotlight until October 31st.

A prolific artist, Cathy creates 70–100 paintings each year. While oil is her primary medium, she has recently been exploring acrylic markers to develop fully realized fine art works. In addition to painting, she has dedicated decades to teaching, mentoring, running a studio, and contributing to numerous art events and organizations—endeavours that continue to bring her pride and notoriety.

We welcome Cathy Boyd to the Spotlight for the month of October.

A celebrated landscape painter, Cathy has been a cornerstone of Midland’s art community for over 30 years. She owns and operates a vibrant studio and gallery on Midland’s main street, where her love for colour, light, and movement comes alive on canvas.

Her work has been collected internationally and recognized with numerous awards, but it is her deep connection to Georgian Bay and the Muskoka region that truly sets her apart. From Midland to Manitoulin Island, Cathy captures the ever-changing beauty of our shorelines, often painting en plein air to reflect the landscapes that inspire her most.
