A trip to Malta at age nine sparked my interest in watercolour while watching my uncle paint a seascape. Years later early morning life drawing sessions were plenty.

Future trips, then moving to Ireland developed my love of Portraiture from drawing musicians at Trad Sessions,Seascapes and Landscapes from living in the West of Ireland.

Back on Canadian soil then moving to different parts of rural Ontario gave me the massive love for our beautifully sculpted trees.

My work resides in private collections in Europe, Canada and the States.

What a fantastic turnout for our Annual Juried Student Exhibition Awards Reception last Saturday!

It was so great to see artists, families, friends, and supporters coming together to celebrate the incredible talent in our community.

Congratulations to all the student artists who participated and to our award winners. We are proud to showcase your creativity and hard work!

Living in Ontario is ideal for any landscape artist. I particularly enjoy trying to capture the movement and light reflections on water and in surrounding landscapes. My medium of choice is acrylics, but I like to challenge myself with watercolours.

Kawartha Art Gallery Board Chair Don Hughes and Executive Director Susan Taylor extend their sincere appreciation to Jamie Schmale MP Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes, for generously giving his time to discuss the funding challenges facing rural organizations and the need to build stronger capacity for economic development in rural communities.

Rural Canada is diverse, and one-size-fits-all approaches to rural policy simply do not work. Rural municipalities differ greatly in geography, population density, infrastructure needs, and economic capacity. Policies and funding programs must recognize and reflect these differences if rural communities are to thrive.

Thank you as well to artist Donna Federico for her beautiful artwork, which added a wonderful pop of colour to the photo.
