🔎 WHAT’S IT WEDNESDAY!🔍

Can you identify this mysterious artifact?

Donated to our collection in 2025, this object holds a connection to one of Lucan’s former landmarks, a building that once stood right across the street from our museum!

🔍 Here’s a clue: This object comes from Lucan’s old, now-closed opera house, where the community once gathered for entertainment.

But what exactly is it?

💬 Share your guesses (and maybe some stories from your times in the opera house) in the comments, and check back later this week when we reveal the answer and uncover the story behind this fascinating piece of local history.

🎃 An Update on All Hallows’ Eve

After much consideration, we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel our All Hallows’ Eve event scheduled for October 30.

We want our community events to be memorable, engaging for all who come, and we don’t feel we can do that for this event.

But halloween isn’t over just yet, stay tuned for an announcement for a fun Halloween day program 👻

Thank you for your understanding and continued support of the Lucan Area Heritage & Donnelly Museum.

WHATS IT WEDNESDAY - Reveal

If you guessed Hair Wreath, you were right!

During the Victorian era, hair wreaths were carefully crafted from the hair of loved ones, woven into beautiful designs to preserve memories and honour those who had passed away. Hair was deeply personal, making these wreaths a meaningful way to keep loved ones close, even after death.

Want to discover more fascinating Victorian mourning traditions? 🕯️ Visit the Lucan Area Heritage & Donnelly Museum this October to explore our exhibit, Beyond the Veil: Mourning & Memory in the Victorian Era, and uncover the customs, keepsakes, and rituals Victorians used to remember the dead

The Lucan Poppy Project Continues!

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community and supporters from beyond Lucan, well over 2,000 beautiful knitted and crocheted poppies have been donated to the project, and now it’s time to bring them all together!

This Remembrance Day, these handmade poppies will be used to create meaningful displays at the Lucan Legion and Granton Cenotaph, creating a community tribute to those who served in the wars.

🧶 We still need your help!

We’re looking for community volunteers of all ages to help us assemble the poppies into blankets and prepare them for display.

📚 Students: This is a great opportunity to earn volunteer hours while taking part in a meaningful local project.

Come out, bring a friend, and help us bring community spirt and remembrance to the Lucan Legion and Granton Cenotaph!
