A photograph is not only about the image itself. Material, finish, and presentation also make a real difference.

When you visit the gallery, you’ll be able to compare canvas and aluminum prints, look closely at the surfaces, and see how different presentation options, including stainless steel standoffs, change the final look of a piece.

I took this photograph in Mahone Bay, where the boats, the water, and the soft blue light came together in a way that felt calm, atmospheric, and almost abstract. I look forward to welcoming you to the gallery and sharing a collection inspired not only by the sea itself, but also by its quieter, more painterly moods.

Waves & Light Art Gallery reopens this week on May 1.

Some of the images in the gallery begin with the natural world but move toward abstraction. That is part of what interests me here: the way rock, water, texture, and light can come together in a way that feels almost painterly. In this piece, the cave, the rust-coloured stone, and the ocean create a scene that is both real and abstract at the same time.

SERENITY — BLUE ROCKS IN MOTION
I took this photograph early one morning in Blue Rocks, using intentional camera movement to move away from a literal view and toward something quieter, softer, and more abstract.
What drew me in was not detail, but atmosphere — the calm of the water, the first light of day, and the way colour and motion could come together to create a sense of stillness. Images like this are part of what continues to draw me back to the coast with my camera.

The sea is never still, and that is one of the reasons I keep returning to it with my camera.

What draws me in is not only the view, but the movement, the light, the energy, and the constant change. Much of my work begins there. I took this photograph at Kingsburg Beach, Nova Scotia, where the scene was especially dramatic and unforgettable.
