Our Story

Rick has had many careers in his life, including Fire Fighter/Paramedic, Tourism operator, Postal worker, Restaurant owner, Actor and Artist. He has always been artistic but only recently became committed to art. Now retired, he paints and acts to stay busy. He is thrilled when people appreciate his talents in either field. The middle son of a military family he was born in France and came to Canada at age two. Many moves took his family to BC, Ontario, The Yukon, Manitoba, and finally Alberta where he lived for thirty years. He met his wife Heather in Paramedic training and they soon married, they lived in Jasper and Calgary Alberta. Heather is from Nova Scotia and Rick was keen to visit. In 2003 they moved there with their young daughter to live and work. They reside on a secluded, wooded lot with their horses and a rabbit, just a par 4 from the Atlantic ocean. Rick seriously took up brush and palette at age 56 and has been photographing and capturing local flora and fauna in vivid colors and with great attention to detail and realism. He likes to say that "The only ism that appeals to me as an artist is Realism" His favorite Artists are Carl Brenders and Johannes Vermeer. Rick works primarily in acrylics and only paints what intrigues him. His works have garnered interest locally and are regularly displayed at the Shoreline, the Shoreline Too and the Lunenburg art galleries. His work titled "Timeless" was selected for a juried exhibition at the Lunenburg Art Gallery in 2012. Rick's works hang in Nova Scotia, British Columbia, Alberta, New York and Wisconsin.
