Took 7 Years To Get This Photograph!!! Wildlife Photography - Rare Encounter With Woodland Caribou
I do apologize for the wind noise and audio at times, it was a challenging day at the top of the ridge.
September 30, 2025 on my wildlife photography road trip, I am in Gaspesie National Park hiking Mont Jacques Cartier Trail looking to photograph woodland caribou, using the Sony A1 Mark 2 on loan with my Sony 400mm F2.8 GM. I have been here every year for the last 7 years doing this hike seeking an encounter with woodland caribou with every year no luck finding caribou. I had no expectations for this hike to be any different, the weather was windy, misty, and cold with temperatures at the top being around -14 Celsius. Woodland caribou here are the last remaining herd south of the Saint Lawrence River and is between 30-40 animals, to encounter one is both lucky and rare. This is a protected limited access trail, I hiked on the last day before it closes, which made it ironic, that on this day I finally find what I am looking for and have a beautiful encounter with a woodland caribou. Surely one of my best wildlife photography thus far, I can even say one of my best photography experience to date. There is something to the fact, that the harder you work for a photograph, the sweeter it is when you achieve it.
