NEW YORK: Arsenal Contemporary New York is celebrating its 15th anniversary with a group exhibition drawn entirely from Collection Majudia.

Cynthia Daignault’s works What Happened and 11/9/2016 (The Washington Post) are both associated with the aftermath of the 2016 U.S. presidential election. Daignault frequently works through extended sequences of small paintings, using accumulation and repetition to question whether painting can meaningfully record lived experience.

Collection Majudia acquired What Happened, currently on view at Arsenal Contemporary New York, from The Sunday Painter at Independent Art Fair in New York in 2018.

Cynthia Daignault is an American painter, writer and curator whose conceptually rigorous practice investigates how images construct history, memory and cultural narratives.

MONTRÉAL : Jean-François Bouchard is part of the Collection Majudia and was invited to create a dedicated project room for the collection’s New York exhibition, bringing together works from The New Cubans and La Retaguardia (The Ones Who Stay).

Developed through more than a decade of engagement with Cuba, The New Cubans explores the lives, identities and subcultures of young Cubans navigating profound social and economic change.

While working on the project, Bouchard witnessed the accelerating migration crisis affecting many of his collaborators. This experience led him to co-direct, with Olivier Côté, La Retaguardia, a short documentary following four young Cuban artists who remain on the island amid the largest wave of emigration in the country’s recent history.

In 2026, the film was selected for The New York Times Op-Docs and featured on the Times homepage. It has also qualified for consideration in the Documentary Short Film category at the 2027 Academy Awards.

The project room recreates the artist’s viewing area using furniture from his studio, inviting visitors to watch the film in an environment that echoes his own video editing and screening room.
