The Friends of Crysler's Farm Battlefield

The Friends of Crysler's Farm Battlefield Lawrence Seaway and the taming of the rapids between Morrisburg and Cornwall, caused it to be moved to its present site.

The Friends of Crysler's Farm Battlefield is a group of volunteers dedicated to preserving the memory of the stirring victory of Joseph Wanton Morrison's Anglo-Canadian army on November 11, 1813. Their primary purpose is the preservation and expansion of the Battlefield Memorial Building at the base of the mound, which is topped with the granite spire commemorating the events of November 11, 1813.

The granite memorial was originally raised by the federal government in 1895 on the actual site of the battle but the flooding of much of South Dundas Township as a result of the construction of the St. It was re-dedicated in 1961 with the Battlefield Memorial Building, housing a magnificent mural of the peak action of the battle by Adam Sheriff Scott, was opened. In recent years government cutbacks have led to a reduction of staffing at the Memorial and it was actually closed for several years. It was re-opened, thanks to the Friends, in 1998, and staffed through the group's efforts in 1999. The Friends' goal is to keep the Memorial functional and to expand its displays and collection of artifacts.

An extra thank you to our American Friends, the Forsyth’s Rifles, who journeyed up here to join us this morning. Lest we forget..
