Dirty Dragon Studio

Dirty Dragon Studio Dirty Dragon Studio Dirty Dragon Studio is a small pottery and ceramic art studio on Mudge Island in the Salish Sea.

Here sculptural and functional pottery is made by Vincent Fe, an amateur potter and all around artist guy. Much of Vincent's pottery draws on influences from the West Coast, in particular the ocean and it's creatures. Dirty Dragon wares can be found online on Etsy and at local markets.

Here are the only 2 strawberry designs I had time for to take to the Ichigo Strawberry Market at the Fernwood Community Centre tomorrow from 11am to 4pm. Very limited quantities of each.
I will have a variety of my other designs available as well, come on by and have a look!

This coming Sunday I will be in Fernwood with a limited selection of wares including these small teapots. I usually only have a small selection of my various designs, and this time it will be an even smaller selection so arriving early is recommended.

Another wee riveted teapot for your Saturday internet perusals.
These little teapots are pretty fun to make, mostly because they have way less rivets to rivet than the big ones!
The final photo shows the rivets that I squeeze on with slip pushed flat at the top and further down the spiky rivets that haven't been flattened yet. When I squeeze the slip on it always has a point to it, kind of like a Hershey's Kiss so I have to flatten them a bit. As a result almost every rivet gets a small section of my fingerprint stamped into it, which is kind of neat. Authentification as part of the process...

Hey YYJ, my next voyage down your way with crates full of new and neat wares to sell will be for the fun and now expanded to 2 days Ichigo Strawberry Market, where I will be set up on the Sunday. It should be a delicious event full of good things and I'm happy to be part of the fun.

Here is something a bit different. These mugs are inspired equally by clay and by the current world we inhabit.
I buy 3 different clays for my stoneware work in different colours: almost black, red and almost white. I reclaim all of my clay bits and scraps, in different proportions each time that create different coloured clays in a wide range of colours and tones that are reminiscent of the wide range of colours of human skin. Clay will still harden in the firing no matter the colour, will still crack or warp if dried too fast no matter the colour, will still break if struck no matter the colour; so too are humans. We have the same strengths and weaknesses no matter our colour, we are all still just clay.
The second inspiration for these mugs is the ongoing *frozen water* problems that our southern neighbours are having. As a first generation Canadian son of Mexican immigrants this issue hits pretty close to home, and I was moved to create some mugs that could give hope while having that nice cup of something.
'Viva la Revolución' means 'long live the revolution' in Spanish, and in this case I don't mean a bricks and rocks revolution but a revolution of the mind, a revolution of love and compassion to overcome the hate and fear that have brought us to this point in time.
If we can at last move beyond trying to colour code our worth we can begin the real job of replacing the racist, patriarchal and colonial societal structures that keep us divided and move toward a world where every human is as valuable as any other human, where our worth is inherent in our human-ness, and where co-operation, compassion and understanding can help us to acheive the fullness of our potential as homo sapiens.
See these and other wares at the Hanami Blossom Market tomorrow at the Fernwood Community Centre from 11am to 4pm.

Here are a few wares from yesterday's firing. I unloaded the kiln of it's cargo of shiny wares this afternoon and immediately reloaded it with glazed bisqueware and started firing again in preparation for the Hanami Blossom Market this Saturday at the Fernwood Community Centre in Victoria from 11am to 4pm.
The teapots came out quite nicely, I'm pretty happy with them.

Fresh bisqueware out of the kiln, now sanded and sponged and ready to decorate and glaze. It's time to start getting wares ready for the Hanami Blossom Market in Fernwood on March 14 from 11am to 4pm at the Fernwood Community Center in Victoria, and this first batch will hopefully be glazed and in the kiln in a few days.
I always enjoy taking warm bisqueware out of the kiln because it has a kind of soft lightness that only happens at this stage of the making process, making the warm and slightly fragile wares kind of like precious little babies.
