Ever wonder what the backstory of this sculpture in Waterfront Park is? It dates backs to the opening of the park in 1985, and includes a collaborative contest between the City of North Vancouver and the North Vancouver Arts Council. Visit MONOVA from now until Oct 31 to see how we've transformed StreetCar 153 into a haunted experience for guests to walk through. For the biggest Halloween fans, we'll also be hosting Ghostly Galleries on Oct 24 & 25 from 5:30PM - 7:30PM. This self-guided, family-friendly experience includes a scary scavenger hunt, festive crafts, and treats. Visitors will get to see MONOVA in a whole new light (or lackthereof!)

Cathedral Mountain, of the North Shore Mountains, was first summited this week over 115 years ago (October 11th, 1908) by Basil Darling and Franklin Hewton of the British Columbia Mountaineering Club. As the tallest peak in the Seymour Watershed, this expedition was no small feat, but that did not stop others from taking the climb in subsequent years. This image is from 1936 of the BCMC eating lunch and enjoying the view after sumitting Cathedral Mountain. October is Canadian Library Month! Small libraries have been a part of the North Shore's history for over 100 years, with the Public Library Association first being started in 1924. The photograph pictured below was taken on November 1st, 1958 at the opening of the New North Vancouver Centennial Library. This ship, the HMCS Yukon, was built at the Burrard Dry Dock in 1959. Having been built under a new target incentive program, the yard completed the ship in 1,447,000 man hours! Attention Coffee Mornings Attendees ‼️🗣️

Our seniors program, Coffee Mornings, will be taking place at the Archives of North Vancouver in Lynn Valley (3203 Institute Rd), rather than it's typical location at the Museum. This change only applies to September's Coffee Morning on Sep 24 - we'll be back to usual for October!

Presentation House Theatre first opened its doors on September 13th, 1976, making it over 50 years old as of this week! Situated inside the old City Hall building, the centre has housed a museum & archives, a gallery, and a theatre. Having so many roles in the city required lots of renovations and community support, much of which was offered through volunteer efforts.
