💵👑From queens to changemakers, women’s faces on bank notes are telling new stories.🌍✨

For a long time, women appeared on currency in a general way as symbols or if they were a monarch.

But today, more and more bank notes are featuring everyday women who shaped history.

Check out the blog to see how this shift is happening around the world.

in 1806, the future president of the United States Andrew Jackson fought a pistol duel with a horse breeder named Dickinson. He had accused Jackson of reneging on a bet and then insulted Jackson’s wife.

Dickinson got his shot off first and wounded Jackson. Jackson’s gun misfired. But then, in what was considered an unsporting maneuver, he refired and killed Dickinson.

Jackson opposed central banks and paper money, yet has appeared on American bank notes on and off since 1869.

This French gold coin was issued when France was nearly bankrupt 😬💸.

It had no denomination marked on the coin so the government could vary its value. Initially vastly overinflated, public resistance to this money-raising ploy brought its value down by 30% in 3 years 📉⏳.

At the time, France’s chief financial advisor was a Scottish economist, gambler and convicted murderer named John Law 😲—who would bring the economy to its knees with his financial schemes.
