Victory at last!

May 8th marks the 81st anniversary of VE Day. Owen Sound joined the world in celebrating Victory in Europe, with people spilling into the streets! The images below were part of the front page of a special edition of the Owen Sound Daily Sun Times. The whole page was framed by an Owen Sound family and is now in our collection.

In October 2019, recent immigrants and refugees to Owen Sound, attending English classes through the Arden Language Centre, planted 100 tulip bulbs to bloom in time with the opening of the "Liberation Spring: 75 Years of Peace" exhibition. Today, almost seven years later, those tulips bloomed again, slowing the enduring impact of community.

Inside the Museum, the exhibition "In Their Steps / Through Their Eyes: The Liberation of the Netherlands," shadows students from Owen Sound as they visit the battlefields in the Netherlands where local men fought for peace at the end of the Second World War.
