HHAS Airspeed Oxford Restoration – Some details of hardware attached on the Pilot side (port) cockpit sidewall. Here is the pilot compass mount and morse code key, which activates downward facing signal lights. Any input on the mounting location of the morse code key appreciated, as could not find details in the drawing of exact mounting location. We continue to search for and attach cockpit hardware as restoration progresses.

Vera Dowling - Aviation Pioneer

Vera Elsie Strodl Dowling (1918–2015) was a trailblazing aviator whose life shaped Canadian aviation history. Born in England, she earned her pilot’s licence in 1937 and served as one of the few female ferry pilots in Britain’s Air Transport Auxiliary during WWII, delivering military aircraft under challenging conditions.

After the war, Vera immigrated to Canada and became Alberta’s first female flight instructor, training civilian and reserve pilots. Her work at CFB Penhold included designing and teaching Air Cadet Pilot Ground School programs, inspiring generations of young aviators.

With over 30,000 flying hours, Vera’s dedication to mentorship, education, and preserving aviation history earned her induction into Canada’s Aviation Hall of Fame in 2000. Vera’s legacy proves that women have always been integral to aviation - and history remembers them.

HHAS Restorations – restoration activities slowed down a bit over the Christmas season, and early January. But now back to work.

Tiger moth activity - still working on some detail in fuselage, and hopefully ready for fabric on fuselage later this year.

Oxford - work over the last month has been on some of the sheet metal, especially the nose cone which was in quite rough shape initially. Volunteer Rob Jaap did a lot of work last year, and Dave and Vern have continued on with repairs, both on internal structure and external sheet metal. Should be ready for priming soon.

HHAS Airspeed Oxford Restoration – This is the bomb aimers panel in the nose of the Oxford. The original wood was mostly weathered away, so we have to build a new panel, with some of the original parts.
