From stripped decking to fresh new shingles...progress is happening on the historic roof restoration at Petawawa Heritage Village!

Every board replaced helps preserve a piece of local history for future generations. Thank you to everyone supporting this project through donations, fundraising, volunteering, and sharing our mission. We're still actively (and happily!) accepting crucial donations to make this happen.

Stay tuned for more progress updates as we continue raising the roof...literally.

Here's your history lesson for the day:

Built in 1893, the Black Bay School is a fine example of the one-room school house typical of this period. Its structure consists of hand-square, 15" squared timbers, that were harvested nearby. In 2005 the building was dismantled and moved to the Petawawa Heritage Village from its original location on Black Bay Road, and since then has been carefully restored, timbers and all, to its original condition.

School trips are back at Petawawa Heritage Village!

This June, bring your JK–Grade 6 students for a hands-on, immersive experience exploring early settler life in Canada.

Students will move through the Village in small groups with costumed interpreters, learning about daily life in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including trades, school, home life, transportation, and our Indigenous village experience.

Dates: June 3, 10, 17
Capacity: Max 40 students per visit

A few quick notes: students should bring their own lunch, wear running shoes, and be pre-grouped before arrival.

Help us Raise the Roof at Petawawa Heritage Village!

We’ve launched a community fundraising campaign to support urgent roof repairs on one of our historic buildings. Every contribution helps protect and preserve local heritage for future generations.

Donations can be made through CanadaHelps, by cheque, or e-transfer (tax receipts available for eligible gifts).

Step into the past this summer! 🕰️

The Town of Petawawa, in partnership with the Petawawa Heritage Village, is hiring Heritage Interpreters for Summer 2026! If you enjoy storytelling, working with people, and bringing history to life, this could be the perfect role for you.

You’ll lead interactive tours, demonstrate historic skills (training provided), support events, and help create memorable experiences for visitors at the Petawawa Heritage Village.

📅 July–August 2026 (8 weeks)
⏰ 35 hours/week (weekends required)
💲 $17.60/hour

We’re looking for individuals with strong communication skills, a positive attitude, and an interest in local history. The ideal candidates will have experience with customer service, cash handling, and grounds maintenance.
